hello, we have a wonderful staffordshire bull terrier bitch, who is due to be neutered next week, is it the  right thing to do as we dont want to breed her, she as already had 2 seasons and the vet says now would be the right time, i just a little worried about her will it change her in any way could she develop any problems, or am i worring over nothing, i just love her to bits.
thanks

Only you can decide if it's right for you and her or not.  Personally, I prefer to leave my dogs as nature intended them, and manage the consequences (ie not let an unplanned mating happen, and be prepared to deal with the consequences IF it did.....)  Statistics will say that the earlier a bitch is speyed, the less likely she is to suffer from mammary tumours - but this benefit decreases after the first season and subsequent seasons.

The main negative consequences of neutering are to do iwth the system not being mature.  As your girl has defintely passed into womanhood so to speak spaying is unlikley to change her character at all.  There is a small risk of urinary incontinence as she gets older (or sometimnes even earlier) but this is usually worse if the bitch is allowed to get overweight.

She will require a little less food, and usually it is best to cut it by about 20% to start with and monitor her weight to see if she is fainingi or loosing, and adjust accordingly.

Some bitches in short coated breeds can tend to develop areas of sparse coat due to the lack or hormones.
