My bitch is 6 weeks pregnant and today has been breathing heavily and is quite lethargic.  She is a very a fit and usually active girl, this is my first litter can anyone tell me if this is a normal thing.  She is eating ok and drinking as normal.

Both my girls panted alot during pregnancy, both had live healthy litters.  As long as she is fine in herself, with no discharge, then I shouldn't worry too much.

Thanks SharonM she is fine in everything else temperature is normal too, just scares the daylights out of you when they start panting for no reason.

Sounds to me like she is just getting a little tired of carrying those babies.....imagine what it must be like lol.

The puppies will be moving about more now which I guess would make her pant more than normal.
All of my girls have started to pant more often and get a lot more tired at around 7 weeks.
I wouldnt worry too much but you could always ring your vet for advice to put your mind at rest

I know I was breathless towards the end of my own pregnancy, we gain weight over 9 months, where as your poor girl gains all this extra weight over 9 weeks, just like us women she's probaby starting to get fat and fed up!!  :-)

As long as she seems fine otherwise, then I shouldn't worry too much!  You could always seek advise from your vet is you are still worried.

Good luck

Many thanks for your replies.  My girl is more  her usual self today (just a slower self) and just got back from a nice steady walk with her and she is quite happy.  I will watch her carefully over the next day or 2.  But all seems ok now.
