My dog keeps finding and eating some form of root vegetable when we are on our walks. As he finds it near where horses are kept, I presume it is sugar beet. Is it ok for my dog to eat this?

Might be swede put out for the milking ewes, either way it shouldn't do him any harm as long as he isn't eating too much and unbalancing his diet.

The farm often puts potatoes out in our fields, although this is usually in the early autumn. We have both sheep and cattle in the fields. By this time of year, the cattle are long gone to market and we only have sheep in the fields.

I have the feeling sometimes that because Anna is a pale yellow the sheep think she is one of them! Either way, they follow her around like a long lost friend!

Regards, John

Could well be sugar beet.

In certain areas of the country it is very often bought in for stockfeed. We put it out for both sheep and horses.  My dogs love it and as it is so hard they can have a good gnaw without getting too much at a time.
