Fab News Roxanne, you are very lucky and I bet you are excited. So how are the driving lessons going?
- By Trevor [gb] Date 05.02.05 06:32 UTC
OOOh you never forget your first car - mine was a yellow Ford Escort called Primrose and she NEVER let me down even when I had to brush 6 inches of snow off her bonnet she still started first time - I was so sad to sell her but needed something bigger for the dogs :(.

Driving lessons are slow do to my timetable not being good and my instructor being busy, but his being really good.  Next oneis next tuesday morning.  It mightb be a long slow process but I'm in no rush, at the moment I'm enjoying the most of "dad's taxi's"

You know - you have just reminded me of something that used to happen with alarming regularity......you must remember that cars need to be fed with petrol (or diesel ) from time to time ......if I had a penny for every time I've had a phone call "Mu-um - do you think you could come out with a can of petrol?......"

Used to comment that No 2 son walked far more once he had his first car than he ever did before :D

Great news, it really is true that you never forget your first car, still think about mine whenever I see a Corsa!! She was particulary special as I passed my(and failed one!!!) driving test in her but it was a bit of a squeeze with the girls on the back in their harnesses so she had to go!!Love my escourt est. tho as the radio actually works!!!
Keep up the lessons, I took my time too but its the best feeling when you find out you've passed!!! Freedom at last!!!!!!!!

My first car was an escort too, burgundy in colour, i saved for a long time to buy that car i loved it, it even had a choke.
- By michelled [gb] Date 05.02.05 15:04 UTC
my first car was a little metro,998cc, & that metro orange colour that was meant to be red but wasnt. in the winter i had to aleways park at the top of steep hills so i could roll down & jump start it myself!!!! :)
i loved that car.

Good for you :D  what an incentive to pass your test.
- By Lady Dazzle [in] Date 05.02.05 17:40 UTC
Now why does all this talk of what your first cars are make me feel very very old!!!

Mine was a Ford 100e with only three gears, but I loved that car, till she let me down, had a blowout and smashed me head on into a lampost. ;-(

I can still remember the joy I had with her, she was white and had her repainted with the bottom half a lovely grey.

Do you know the strange thing is I have always loved two tone cars ever since. lol :-D
- By ice_queen Date 05.02.05 18:15 UTC
Yes I know petrol, which is why I now have a higher income!!!  Maybe I could try the "dad can you fill my car up?"  worth a try!

It's a 1.4 petrol something or other...

lol

Now I can see me still doing alot of walking just to save money, and be kind to the environment, and so not to get fat.....However friend has other ideas...I can take her to more shows and take her shopping!  Hmmm
- By Ingrid [gb] Date 05.02.05 18:27 UTC
Just do the same as my daughter does, let your parents borrow the car when the tank is empty, then they have to fill it up !!!!!!

Hmmm my first car, only got rid of her in December after having her nearly 3 years, so not long, she was only 1 yr old when i got her. She was a little black fiesta 1.3 finesse.

Have now swapped her for a 1.6 Focus, since i got my first car ive changed uni meaning a motorway drive twice a day + doing some work in an office in northampton so an M1 drive at least once a week and i felt intimidated by all the big lorries blowing me around. Its great to have 5 doors particularily now we have leo and i live with my B/F who likes to cart large quantities of junk around with us!

I did love my little fiesta tho was so sad to see her go, i have some good memories of her tho

My first was a VW polo coupe 'sigh', 'Betty'. I crashed her 3 times, left her sat in garage for nearly two years before I found the time to take lessons/pass test etc. Bought her for £800, only 13K on the clock and a OAP previous owner...aaah poor Betty, I killed her. :D

Funnily enought I have just bought another banger. M reg Renault going dirt cheap. Tried to tell hubby it was for him so I could have the VW passat estate all the time....funnily enough he told me where to stuff it ahem :D

I've also got a ford transit going cheap if anyone is after a van ......
- By kayc [gb] Date 06.02.05 20:40 UTC
Spook, how cheap??
- By Spook [gb] Date 07.02.05 15:46 UTC
Well it's a typical ford transit....It needs the power steering fixed and the doors need looked at. My Dad has it parked at work and just wants rid. He'll take £250 for it. It's a bargain if anyone has a mechanic in the family. If any further info needed I'll get the full specifics for you :)
- By ice_cosmos Date 06.02.05 21:28 UTC
What type of transit? LWB/SWB - High/Semi-High?
- By ClaireyS Date 07.02.05 13:46 UTC
My first car was a ford fiesta, it only had four gears - and had a choke too :)
- By michelled [gb] Date 07.02.05 14:37 UTC
i think i 1.4 astra is a pretty good  1st car! too good? ;)????
its quite powerful for a 1st one!!! i was lucky that my metro was only 1litre, (then i had two 1.4s,then a 1.6 & now my lovely 1.9van)
- By abbymum [gb] Date 08.02.05 16:14 UTC
I had a metro for a first car it was pants I would never let my kids get one I one year I spent more on fixing it than I paid for it. When I got rid of it got a 205 excellent car.
