I love staffs and find it sooooo distressing that this breed is getting such bad press.Just picked up the 'dog papers' and theres and article on a staff that has been sentenced to death FOR KILLING A CAT!
I appreciate the dog was out of control but to order it is PTS for that is terrible. The dog is a companion to a pensioner who lives on her own....surely a warning would have been enough?

I do feel very bad for the cat, but i do not think the dog should be put to sleep. I have three dogs and i know that two of them would definatly kill a cat if they got the chance. I think a good telling off and a warning to the owner would of been enough.

Good lord. Dogs do chase cats. Just like cats chase birds.
I know Hollie detests cats.

Our Neighbour has about 12 cats ( she breeds British short hair and Chinchilla's and has some rescues that she takes in) They quite often come on to our land and like to hide in  our woodshed to ambush the birds on the nearby birdtable, they also try and kill my hens chicks if they can - luckily my rooster fends them off :). I KNOW that if my dogs had the opportunity they would kill -them they go ballistic when they see the cats - I must admit that it does annoy me that her cats can wander all over my garden but I would be in real trouble if one of my dogs got into hers :(. I do wonder what the facts of this case were - if the cat was in the dogs territory then surely he was only doing what most dogs would ?.

Lets hope it never comes to it Yvonne.

Cats owners by law are not held accountable for their misdoings, but dog owners as we all know.......... Well, responsible owners that is ;)

She was out with the dog...it was not on a lead. The cat was sat on a wall and the dog saw and chased it.Chased it into a graveyard where the attendant caught the dog and removed the dead cat from it .

I was always under the impression that Cats were classed as wild animals, so maybe its to do with the new Hunting Mammals with Dogs law.

If you hit a cat with your car, you don't have to report it, but if you hit a dog you do!!!!

No its been done under the DDA...the dog was classed as danderously out of control

Does make you think though doesn't it Archer as to what the new law will bring about.  I understand from the article in the dog press that the cat was a stray.

It could just as easily have been a squirrel or a hare it chased and caught!!!

It is also reported in teh same paper that a staffy who accidently caught a toddler with his teath has been reprieved from his death sentence.

Makes the law a bit of an lottery doesn't it, it depends where you are and who is judging you, as to the outcome!!!
