Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Shih TZU urinating problem
- By Guest [gb] Date 04.02.05 11:06 UTC
I have a 1 yr old shih tzu who has started urinating on the table legs, walls, cupboards etc.
I have tried all the usual sprays etc but to no avail.
We have a 4 mnth old bitch.. is it because he is trying to mark spots ?? but I thought he would be used to the bitch by now as we have her since she was seven weeks old.
Can any one suggest anything before my wife get rid of our lovely Dylan????
E-mails to Darren@concept-4.co.uk would be gratefully appreciated.

Thanks
Darren

I think this a common problem when two dogs or dog and bitch and kept together.  I think he is just marking his territory.  I have heard of a few cases like this.  The only thing I can think of is castration although this may not cure it either.  Could you not have a word with your vet to see what he recommends before rehoming your dog.

I think he is marking his territory - dont forget your bitch is growing up. He is letting "intruders" know she is his. My boy did it at about this stage. You need to make sure all scent is removed rather than use a deterrent spray - if he can smell where he went before he will carry on doing it. Whenever you catch him, a loud NO! to let him know he is doing wrong and put him out (as with puppy training).  Mine grew out of it once he knew it was taboo and when he felt more secure of his position with the bitch. Dont forget he is still very young and still trying to work out his place now he feels more grown up and there is a young lady on the scene.
