Am yet again, totally disillusioned with the world today :( :(

I have just been told that somebody I know had her rescue puppy stolen from the back of her car. She had him in his cage with their JRT and had left them in the car park to go to the petshop, literally on the other side of the road. She came back, glass smashed, cage open with a very terrified JRT covered in glass, shaking and no sign of the puppy.

He was a collieXJRT and had been found on Xmas day wandering about near a main A road, they have had him since the beginning of this year. That poor pup, what a bad start in life he has had.

I never leave my dogs in the car unless I can help it, but I have just parked up and nipped into a shop with the car outside, like this lady. NEVER AGAIN!!!

two years ago,a customer of mine, had her two collie puppies stolen from her car (smashed window) as she visited her dying mother in bristol cancer hospital.( her mother had bought her the pups for her bday so shed have something positive to remeber her by when she died) they were stolen from the hospital car park whilst the lady went to check that it was ok for them to be taken in to show her mother. :(
luckily she got on the local news & the pups were dumped separtly in bristol a few days later. one was running around a park, had not had any jabs or anything....bl***y b******DS

That is terrible  it's totally alien to me the depths that some people (scum) will stoop to!!

I haven't got my new addition yet and am already worried about taking her out, people round here know that I have an unusual dog breed, as he's such a star and has his own fan club :P But adding another one to the clan will spread like wildfire, especially with my daughter telling all and sundry, I think that I will be guarding her 24/7 until she's old enough to scare 'em off.

Does this seem to be happening more frequently these days, or is it just because it's being reported more? I know there are people out there who will steal dogs because they can breed from them or sell them on and make money and also for fighting  but it seems now, if you have any animal, of any description it's at risk.

How awful. I never leave my dog in the car unattended. If I'm going somewhere that she is not allowed, I don't take her. But my overall hate is people who tie up there dogs outside a shop an then go off shopping. I can't stand that.

The worlds such a cruel place :(
We had our dog stolen by gypsies last February but luckily he was near by and we got him back after two agenising weeks. Does your friend know about www.doglost.co.uk ?
Tell her its a good idea to call them and they will put her missing dog up on the sight for her. Also she needs to put posters up as soon as possible as people may have seen who took the puppy (hand made ones will do if she cant get a picture straight away).
I hope your friend gets her puppy back soon. I will be thinking of her,

This makes me even more paranoid about leaving our dogs in the car at the "Walk with me" seminar next week! If I'd known we had to do that I wouldn't have registered....:( :( :(

A small padlock on the cage door may help. They can still smash the windows etc, but cant get acage with dogs in, out of the car.

And the lady with the Springer Spaniel who tied it up outside the petshop laughed at me when I said dogs got stolen........  I hope she never finds out that it really does happen :(

A women was looking out of the dor over my shoulder in Sommerfield the other day.
She apologised for it and said she was watching her dog.
I told her that some dogs had been stolen near here, but couldnt remember where.
She looked worried, thanked me for letting her know and went. Maybe it means she wont tie the dog up outside anymore :)
I never tie my dogs up outside, but I do tend to leave them in the car to nip into the Spar on way back from walks :S

If anyone ever tried to pinch mine, I would be devastated, and so angry.

Dont know what I would do to them if I ever found out who it was. I know it wouldnt be pretty though.

I dont take mine anywhere he cant go. He's left at home when I have to go shopping. I hope someday these theives try to pinch a dog from a car, and the dog rips their hands apart. Maybe they would think twice then!!

If we have to leave our dogs in the car the crates are always padlocked with very visable locks - hopefully this will deter anyone from even trying to break the windows and take them - mind you the dogs themselves can be pretty fierce looking if a stranger approaches the back of the car :)

Another site which registers lost dogs is k999@yahoogroups.com With the help of Jayne from Dog Lost and Phebe Cooper from K999 I have been trying to follow the pattern of dog thefts, and why they are being stolen. I have discovered that some are stolen for ransom, but many are bing shipped to France. I am doing this as a part of a story for the press. If you have or would like more information pm me.

I haven't seen this woman to speak to since this terrible thing happened, but I understand that she has registered the pup stolen with various agencies and I noticed posters in our village this morning :(

What I would like to do to these morons isn't repeatable on here

It's not just happening in the UK.
Below a report from Holland.

"In Amersfoort is een 82-jarige vrouw op straat beroofd van haar chihuaha. Het hondje is Nederlands kampioen en ruim duizend euro waard. Na een zoektocht heeft de politie de viervoeter gevonden en bij haar bezorgde baasje teruggebracht. Van de dieven ontbreekt nog ieder spoor."

This states that an 82 year old (!!) woman was robbed from her chihuaha.
The dog is dutch champion and worth over a 1000 Euro's.
The police did find the dog again (very good news!!) but no sign of the robbers so far (bad news!)

Who in their right mind would rob an 82 year old woman of anything !! :(

Polly We have had a couple of instances of dogs being stolen from back gardens as well as from cars and outside shops, so those of you that leave your dogs outside, I would beg you to revise security. A 6 foot fence and abolt on the back gate is not enough. I also know of one instance where the owner of the stud dog came back and threatened the owner of the bitch, steeling all of the pups at 41/2 weeks. often wonder if they survived :(

I got an email from my dog trainer saying she has had reports of dog thefts in Luton and surrounding areas so anyone living near there please beware.
