How long ago did all this happen, you would have been better off taking her to the vet as soon as you knew it happened and got the morning after injection for her.  By the sounds of things its too late now, but get her to the vet anyway, you need to know for sure............it could be a phantom (let's hope)

Get her vet checked now

Beth bitches don't have a menapause, so could still ahve pups at any age, but as with people the older the body gets the harder it is for the body to cope with the hard work of giving birth and rearing pups.

I would want the bitch scanned, as her pups if she is pregnant would be due at the weekend, and if she doesn't go into labour it could be inertia, due to ehr body being unable to get labour under way.

You really need to know one way or another,a dn be prepared for a possible C section, even if labour does start, as if the litter is small the chances are that with her less flexible bones she will ahve great difficulty passing large pups.

A scan this late should be able to tell the vet the relative size, number and health of the pups.

Hi thanks yes i think its back to vets she is a little schauzer and she is big under belly  and  she.s never had a phantom before i do think she is pregnant i wish people would not let there dogs rome

Can you see or feel any movement? If your bitch will stay relaxed while you feel her belly you may be able to feel something if you feel a few times.

Yes we have felt something, it wasn't like a kick it was more like one was pushing its nose out at me.  She is due know and i have that there isn't much movement before labour

It certainly sounds as if she may be pregnant.

As brainless has said, she may be in for a rough time, so be well prepared.  Make sure that your Vet is very aware of the situation.

Do you have anyone local to you who is an experience dog breeder, it may well help to have a knowledgeeable person on the other end of the phone if she does have problems.

We have  a good vets at the bottom of the street i won't hesitate to call him out.  i have just lost one dog (she was 14!) two weeks ago i am not going to loose another dog because of a stray.

Thats good to hear Beth. I would certainly make sure that they are very aware of her age and what has happened (i.e. stray dog).  Do you have any idea what breed the stray was as this could be relevant to the whelping?

How's she doing today?

Thankyou for all your help.

i haven't had a good nights sleep worrying about her i'm not used to this.

Looked at her this morning she looks quite healthy.

The stray dog it looks like a cross breed. (i don't know how this has happened i have a six ft fench around my garden but it lept over it and its not that big).

Although we are all telling you to prepare for the worst case scenrio, sometimes older Mums sail through with the whelping and rear the pups beautifully, so let us hope for teh best and be prepared for teh worst.

There is always someone on here at all hours so you can post a blow by blow account of happenings if you have not expereinced person to help, but make sure your vet knows when dhe has started.
