A puppy with no anus or private parts really stands no chance of survival, sorry about the puppy and what you are going through, but its a case of "Better a day too soon, than a day too late"...I would speak to your vet and talk about the possibility of doing the kindest thing you can and having the poor puppy put to sleep. Sorry i could not be of more help to you.

Cheza,
I had hoped that someone who has bred pups would be along to help, but since no-one has yet I thought I had better answer. I've never bred but my understanding is that baby milk will not do at all for the pups and if the mother has no milk you will need to use a canine milk substitute like Whelpi. If I were you I would get straight back on to your vet right away, explain the situation and seek their advice.
Hope this helps.
Lesley
Hi Lesley, it maybe no one has come along to offer advice because they can`t! I`ve bred litters but never been in the situation Cheza is & have nothing to offer unfortunately.

Hi Cheza,
It's not unusual for there to appear to be no milk straight away - try not to worry, you're obviously very distressed right now and that's understandable :( The first food the puppies get from their mum is collostrum - put them onto their mum's teats, they will almost certainly be getting some and this is the most valuable thing for them straight away for strengh and anti-bodies etc. Contact your vet anyway and speak to him about the poorly little puppy - I know it seems very harsh, but this little pup wont survive long anyway and it is kinder to give it sleep now and prevent suffering - without anus and genitalia it will not be able to pass any toilet.
If your bitch is settled and at ease with the other puppies feeding from her etc, the milk should be evident in a day or so. In the meantime, mention your concerns to your vet and ask him for a substitute to use if the milk does not come through - human baby formula is not the right thing to use. As a stand by you can give some tinned "Carnation Milk" - just the regular human stuff available at any supermarket.
HTH, Keep us posted.
Best wishes, Teri ;)

Hi Christine,
Yes that will be it! I couldn't really offer advice either, but I had watched the post and was getting increasingly worried because no one had come along so eventually felt I had to say something, if only to encourage Cheza to get in touch with her vet for advice. Thank you Teri for coming along and pointing Cheza in the right direction :)
I'm so glad my dogs are male and I'll never have to go through the worry of whelping and rearing puppies :D
Lesley

Like the others have said, when a bitch whelps sometimes it does look as though she doesn't have any milk, keep the pups on her this will help draw the milk down. If her milk doesn't come in then you need to get a bitches milk substitute ie. welpi, litterlac.......and start bottle feeding, it will be hard work! I've just finished hand rearing a litter of 5 (we lost 3) it started at 2ml of welpi every 2 hours both day and night.
Re. the other poor little pup, again like the others have said, it's not going to get better :-( and the kindest thing to do is ease it's suffering and ask you vet to help it on it's way. If you have to hand rear the rest too, you really don't need the added distraction of a very poorly pup that's not going to get better...........I know this sounds hard, but you have to think about the healthy pups and give them your best.
Good luck, I hope things work out for you all.

Speak to your vet asap if you are genuinely concerned she has no milk. Sometimes an injection of oxytocin will help let the milk down. Best wishes to you all

Hi
You sound absolutely exhausted and desperate, and I do understand why. The pups will stay hydrated for a day or so, so don't worry too much at the moment about them. Let them suck at the mum as that will encourage the milk down. If you still feel that they are getting nothing, then try topping them up with Welpi or Litterlac as Sharon says, but give the bitch time for the milk to come in. It is luckily rare for a bitch to have no milk. One of my bitches never got her milk in properly until the 2nd or 3rd day, and her pups were so noisy until then, even though I topped them up. After whelping I could never get any milk out of her teats, and like you I feared the worst, but by day 3 she had loads.
As for the little one, please let it go. Take it to the vet to be pts - don't let it linger on by trying to feed it - you may think you are being kind but you really aren't. It can't have a future without any way of evacuating.

Well I am absolutely astounded that the Vet didn't put the pups to sleep straight away. without an anus or genitals it cannot pass it's waste and will poison itself internally and will be in pain.
My freinds baby girl was born with an inperforate anus and she needed a colostomy until she was old enough to have one created when she was old enough to withstand the operation.
With the best will in the world this would be impractical (und undesireable) to do this to a puppy. there is no way that the level of hygene required could be kept up, anf the pups would have to be taken away6 from it's mother as she couldn't look after it. this is assuming that in such a severre case it was even possible to operate.
As others have said you often don't see milk in first couple of days,a dn to supplement too soon may put the bitches lactation at risk. Milk owrks on a supply and demand basis, if pups aren't hungry they won't suckle, ergo no milk will be produced (or not enough).

Cheza,
Any news ??
Keep putting the puppies on the milk will come. It sometimes takes a day or so for it to come in well.
If the little one passes although it is hard it is meant and probably for the best for the little thing.
Let us know please how things are.
It has took 3 days for my bitches milk to come in properly, but they still gained weight, try and be calm, sorry to hear about the poorly pup, good luck im sure you will be fine x

We had a Bitch with no milk on her last litter of 5 we used goats milk as a substitute, using a syringe SLOWLY (there are bottles with teats you can buy) but we found this way was great. i also fed them every 2 hours day and night, we never had any worries with this routine, however as so many people have said keep putting the pups on to your bitch as there is a good chance they will draw the milk down.
Good luck to you

Exactly the same here 7618, my bitch had 8 pups, we lost 3, vet told me NOT to bottle feed as the pups WOULD draw the milk down..........sadly 3 days later it still hadn't arrived, so against my vets wishes I started hand feeding, using a prem baby bottle with valve, 2ml welpi every 2 hours for 4 weeks......obviously the quantity went up as the pups got older. But my bitch NEVER got a drop of milk, although she did have before she had the C-section!!
