Don't spoil her day Dizzie, she is new to showing and it takes time to be able to assess the competition. Jackie H

im not knocking the dog at all, he may be fabulous, i hope so, what im trying to point out is that when the dog wasnt picked the judges were bent--so im assuming that this judge must be the better judge????
i started off thinking that way as im sure many of us did, however the only judge thats a good judge isnt nessescarily the one that liked our dogs best,

Yes I know where you are coming from Dizzie, had to count to 20 before I answered and felt meen for wanting to make a snide remark but got the better of myself and was able to sent best wishes. Suppose we are all still reacting to the original posts but Deary does have the grace to head this one (I must have got it wrong). Jackie H

:D yeh--wrong this time!!!!!!! :D :D :D
I could be wrong, but I don't remember her saying her dog should have won, I remember her saying the ones who came first had connections to the judges - or so it seemed. She felt she would never get a look in because she was new and if the judges pick people they know.....
I understand how she feels. I've only been showing a year, and there were days I questioned who a judge placed - even if I knew mine shouldn't place - there were some truly odd decisions.

Thanks to everyone that wished me well, i must admit that some comments did make me wonder what kind of board that this is but i will take the rough with the smooth.
I never said that my dog should have won the other classes i just said that it seemed that the judging was very facey in my first couple of shows.
Hopefully like was typed higher up i will learn who is who.
Deary

Deary some news to put your mind at rest.
The couple with the dog I bred who have just started showing, and got a RBIS only second time out at an Open show, yesterday attended their first all breed Ch show and won the Dog CC and BOB!
There were several champion dogs for the judge to choose from, two at least who did a lot of winning last year!
Sometimes good dogs win on their reputation rather than on the day, and some judges do not have the courage of their convictions, or the knowledge to see past handlers or dogs inexperienced, and the clever handler wins! All the faces started somewhere!
As for judging friends and relatives it is difficult. close relatives are a no no in most peoples book, but if you never showed under your friends you wouldn't have an entry, as by the time you aspire to judge your breed, unless you are very antisocial, you will be on at least polite terms with most of the exhibitors!

Well done deary! Granted, as others have said, you are new to showing, but don't assume that all jugdges or judging are as straight or as competent as some here have suggested. A browse through back issues of Dog World and Our Dogs, and reading many recent and past articles by people of vast experience, knowledge and integrity will show that, and I'll scan and e-mail you a few if you'd like.
A few judges should not be judging gerbils; some are members of mutual assistance cliques; some judge the wrong end of the lead. Some are incapable of seeing past kennel blindness, more are breed fashion victims, and still more lack the guts to pass by the present "in" dog and/or kennel. Far too many have most peculiar, old-fashioned and totally discreited/incredible notions about movement genetic and especially anatomy.
The good news is that very many judges are honest, knowledeable, helpful folks.
Stick at it, enjoy it - and above all don't take it too seriously!!!

i was making the point of when a judge picked a different dog to yours you found a reason each time--until the judge gave you the class then that judge was ok, non facey etc,
different judges have different things in a dog that is more important to them than others-for instance one might be a front fanatic, another a mouth one, everyone has different values, although taking in the whole dog and judging it on his virtues,
because they preferr someone elses doesnt always mean they got it wrong, perhaps you show your dog better now, perhaps hes matured enough to win, theres loads of reasons why!!!!
as for what kind of board this is--its a very honest one, dont ask if you dont want to know :D, as most experienced exhibitors would tell you the same if they where being honest,
im sure you had it explained on the other boards that youve written about the assumed unfairness,

I am happy to hear some judges are called stupid, after all we all continue learning until the day we turn our toes up but I do object to read that most judges are dishonest, like the population at large some may be - but most are honest and judging to their best ability. JH
