I have a litter of beagle puppies and wondered when other people started to feed them as these are big babies and i think they may need to start to be fed before 4 weeks of age will this be okay?

I have always started introducing sloppy food just before 3 weeks of age.  If weight gain has slowed down have even started them as soon as their eyes have opened.  I like to have them eating something before I worm them which should be done for teh first time by 3 weeks.

Judging from recent posts it does seem to vary breed by breed, perhaps your stud dog owner would be a good source of advise if they are regular breeders themselves.

Hi....my beagle pups are always trying to eat mums food as soon as their eyes are open ! I usually start with puppy porridge at about 2 1/2 to 3 weeks old especially if they are big lusty pups.By 4 weeks mine are all independent eaters, and only have mums milk for very brief periods.....oooowwww all those teeth !! ouch

you should contact the breed club for advice on price/health issues/required health tests etc and ask them to put you in touch with a reputable breeder...it is always the best place to start when buying a new breed

hi archer, not interested in beagles myself (im a shepherdlady always was and will be) but my son has always had a soft spot for the beagles and i just wondered out of interest. although you are right about researching breeds it took us a great deal of time and questions to breeders to find my boy but his temprement and movement is second to none

Price seems to be £750-£800 for a well bred beagle
