Cleo came to us on tuesday and I thought she was off her food from the move, she was on bakers complete but she just wasn't interested unless she was getting it by hand!
When I took her to the vet today he gave me a free sample of hills senior and I gave her some for lunch, she scoffed the lot in seconds! Now I'm trying to decide which food to give her and they all sound great and there are lots of people who recommend all of them.
People also say to introduce new food gradually, but she's not eating the bakers anyway so could I just change it? I'm lucky as I have a petshop nearby that sells all 4, but that doesn't help me decide which one to go for!
She's an 8 year old boxer if it make any difference, no skin complaints or anything, just slight arthritis in one knee.
Thanks again, Viv

If she is enjoying the Hills why not let her continue with it, the only complaints I have heard about it is the high price vets charge but I you have another local source and that seems reasonable I would just carry on and think yourself lucky to found something she found agreeable so quickly :)
i find hills very expensive for 1 bag of puppy food it is E17 and it only lasts 2 weeks
thing is lil is triving on it even though i still intend to change to burns in the next few months

If you are talking about science diet, then i would definately not feed it.The only thing premium about it is it's price, which does not gel with it's cheap inferior ingredients :(
I feed my Boxers a complete dog food.
My oldest one who's coming up to 7 this May will shortly be changed over to a senior diet.
Once she's finished the food she has.
I've fed my Boxers a variety of completes over the years but I try to find the wheat gluten free
varieties with no artificial preservatives or colourants.
JWB, Arden Grange are good foods and some of the 'senior' diets have glucosamine added which
is supposed to help ageing joints.
You just have to find the one that suits her really. That's what I do with mine.
Good luck with Chloe and hope you have lots of fun with her.

I feed JWB for awhile and the dogs did well on it, but alot of folk say it left stools loose :( :)
When the latest pup joined us, she was on BETA. As I have my own feeding regime and don't do 'the norm', it soon became apparent that all the dogs loved BETA. So now they're all on BETA....it's cheaper than JWB but their preferences outweighed the cost regardless :) I have had a pup on Hills but he wasn't too fussed after awhile hence the switch to JWB.

Hi,
Check out locally,do not buy Jwb,Hills Science,Burns, from VETS OR pet supermarkets.
It is available in some areas much cheaper through local bussiness. They are excellent premium foods however the above make huge profits on it.
People do sell these foods as a business through posters and word of mouth more of a question of keeping your ear to ground so to speak ;-)
As im always saying dont necesarily slate a food off just because of price it can still be excellent food its just unfortunate certain establishments try to make huge profits.
Briony :-)
I have been feeding JWB to my Flatcoats for 4 years and never had any problems. 8yr old dog & 6yr old spayed bitch are on Senior/Light Turkey and 2 yr old is on Adult Turkey, I have also tried Autarky on when my youngest was going through an 'I don't need to eat to live' stage and ate really well for a while, though he's back on JWB now. Both foods have produced good poo. Just a case of finding what suits you and your dog.
I like Burns and they will deliver it to your door. My first dog, Manic Morse was a notorious picky eater till we got him on Burns and he scoffed the lot. Less waste all round, different flavours and the food contains what they say it does. If you wave the kettle over it the flavour rises without turning it into a sticky mess. BTW I love Cleos grey muzzle you described.
hi,
I have got my 14 week old pup on JWB which i must admit he loves. It was recommended to me at my ring class for coated dogs and the guy in the pet shop did admit it was probably one of their best sellers. I introduced him to it gradually over four days and can honestly say his poos are what i consider to be perfect (LOL). Doesnt that sound daft!

I know this has probably been asked here before, but does anyone know where we can get Autarky from at a better price, apart from cash and carry places? I'm paying £17 a bag, and I know places sell it more cheaply (I just can't find them!!). Thanks!

Hello,
When we collected Apollo (male GSD) from the breeders, we were given Hills Science as this is what they had been reared on. We fed him on this for a while, but he was never keen on it and very hyper. Our clicker trainer at the time suggested Nutro which we switched to gradually and he did become calmer, but had very soft stools. Although, he was never very fond of this either and we were worried at one point that he just didn't like food! Afetr some research, we thought we would give James Wellbeloved a go, and low and behold it has worked wonders! His coat looks great, his stools are firm and he just seems to love it! As GSD's can have sensitive stomachs, the JWB website suggested the Lamb and Rice complete food, so he was given the puppy performance, then switching to the Junior performance.
