Hi, I am 19 yrs old and love dogs, I have shown bearded collies in the past.

If I wanted a job that involved dogs:
   What jobs are available?
   What experiences/qualifications would be involved for these jobs?

Why not join the site it's free & easier for answers to be given

If you want to work with dogs the qualifications you need depend on what you want to do

For example if you wnat to be a dog groomer you will need to do a grooming course

There are many & varied jobs, Kennel hands(PC for kennelmaid/man), Groomer, trainer, behaviourizt(not one of my favourite job titles but very popular at this time), T Touch, dog walker, dog sitter, veterinary nurse are just the first few that spring to mind

You could volunteer to work at a rescue kennels to get experience with dogs & they always need help

Police doghandler or a forces dog handler was always my dream....'sigh' :) There is a fantastic new dog creche opened up on cramlington Industrial Estate, they might be willing to give you some work experience. Or there's the doggy swimming pool near Morpeth...they do alot of hydrotherapy/training/playing, they too might offer you some work experience. Benton Farm Cat & dog Shelter nr Four Lane Ends Metro & Claremont Rd Cat & dog shelter nr Newcastle centre are always looking for volunteers to help out.
There are alot of dog groomers/walkers in business in the North east. Or you could pop along to a local ringcraft class and ask the organisers for careers in the Kennel Club.

I worked in a rehoming and bording kennels for five years, and it was the best rewarding job i have ever had, i really loved it. The problem is they can only afford to pay you very low wages, which was ok until i had my little boy, then i had to leave because the money was not enough. It broke my heart. I am a resturant manager now and hate it, but pays very well. One day i hope i can afford to do it again.
