Does anyone know the difference (if any) between these wormers. Have tried without success to access the data sheet for the latter from the net.

I need to worm my in-whelp Phoebe now, and the Flubenol seems to be needed for a much shorter time than the Panacur, although son has said they're the same drug, just different companies.

If you look up Flubenol on the Janssen site, it says not to be used on pregnant women in human medicine. So wonder why they recommend it for in-whelp bitches.

JO I would use strongid as it is the safest one i know of Mari

i didnot worm wispa,untill the pup where wormed at 3,5,7,9,weeks old,she was wormed just before she was mated. not while she was in whelp,heard to many horror storys, in flatcoats,from other breeders in the breed ?.

The problems I had, and others, were with actually worming the puppies, not (I think) in gestation. I have used Panacur without problem in gestation, but had disaster with it in one of the litters. (Previous posting)

Mari - does Strongid work against encysted Toxacara worms - do you know? Haven't used it on dogs, only horses

I have wormed all my in whelp bitches without porblem using panacur. That is 7 litters and 3 of the bitches are in directr descent Grandmother Mother and Daughter, so the two younger ones were wormed before birth.

I only had problems with one litter (my third) when worming at 3, 5, and 8 weeks. Previous and litters since have been done only at 3 1/2 and 7 weeks with no Problems.

I like to worm the bitch in whelp to minimise the risks of worm transfer to pups and humans. Having young children, resident and visiting, and knowing that in practice they won't wash hands every time!

HAVE used Strongid on every litter of puppies I ever had with no probs at all the worms come out in a white dead mass .yuk. but not wriggly or thread like . just a mass of dissolved stuff oh god yuk im making myself ill. but that is why its so good leaving little to hurt the insides of the young.

I cannot honestly answer that as I cant get Strongid in Ireland anymore so I forget Jo , used the last bit I had last september on the new pups . { senile dementia}
I am going to london in august and am going to buy loads of it nothing compares to it , Mari. Ps I think W.Lover uses it , im sure she will catch up Mari :)

Hi Mari and Jo, dont know how I missed this thread - and its probably too late now!! I just ordered Strongid through my vet, once it had been recommended to me by a stud dog owner. - the vets wern't aware there was a Strongid paste made for dogs, but got it easily. It was inexpensive - very easy to dose and very effective- no poorliness in the pups either. I shall be using it again. I've just had a look at the packet and it doesn't mention encysted worms but can be used on lactating bitches. Good luck with your babies, Flatcoats have loads dont they?

Thanks everyone - will certainly try Strongid this time. Yes WL - f/cs are a law unto themselves - tend to have one or loads - either way they're bound to be trouble right from the start ;-)

My liver girl is quite large, but it's probably all water - and no, anybody else - we have a long waiting list for them......

Lets hope its not one then, Jo !! LOL. Strongid also worms for hookworms too, had to peel back the label to read it all. Why oh why are there always stickers over the important info - GRR. :-)
