hey while readin on this site about different breed of dogs i came across two that i have never heard of before one of them called a labradoodle and a billy i dont know about you but i have never heard of these before has anyone else i dont know if they are pure bredd dogs or cross breeds but they are unusual

A labradoodle is a cross between a labrador and a poodle-and some bright spark came up with the 'cutesy' name to make it sound more appealing and justify charging an inflated price for what is essentially a cross breed.  And a Billy?  Thats a new one on me sorry, can't help there!  Where was it mentioned?

My partners parents have one. I was told they are good dogs for people who are allergic to dogs.

He is huge tho!

Unfortunately there is no guarantee which genes they will inherit from which parent and so some will shed and some won't hence they are not all suitable for people with allergies.

Labradoodles are not for people who are alergic to dogs they are bread for people with allergies, ie: ashma

A Labradoodle is certainly a cross breed if you do a search on this site you will find lots of reasons why the breeding of these exploitative crosses should not be encouraged.  Sadly they are not unusual as more and more people seek to make money out of the cutesy name and the supposision that they will be better than either of the two original breeds for one reason or another.

A billy is a goat isn't it? :D

I believe a Billy is a type of hound, similar to a fox hound but smaller - could be totally wrong though :)

The Billy is a  French breed, the breed standard describes them as distinguished and noble, strong and light.

Standing at 24-26 inches for dogs and 23-24inches for bitches and weight 55-66 lbs. It has a fine lean head with rather a square muzzle, a marked stop and dark eyes . Long flat hound like ears . It's coat is fine and close and comes in white, off-white or white with orange and lemon markings. Black markings of any sort are disallowed.

It's temperament is proud courageous, obedient and untiring. It was developed to hunt deer and will bay when it's sights it's quarry.

It is very rare outside of the Massif Central region of France.

I have never heard of a Billy, but i know what Labradoodles are, they are a Labradore cross a Standard Poodle, they are good for people who are astmatic as they dont shred hair.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 29.01.05 18:33 UTC
The latter part of your post is incorrect.  sowm will shed, some may not, depends which of the parents traits they inherit.  With a purebred poodle you would be sure that they do not shed.

As many of them do shed hair as don't - they even admit that on their website!

In actual fact, almost no person is allergic to dog hair. It is not the hair which brings on the Asthma attack, It is Dander, the dead skin, and that is just as likely with Labrador crosses as any other breed. Asthma sufferers really need to experiment with a number of breeds to find which is the best for them. Discover Dogs is a good place to start.
