I would like to get a Welsh Terrier puppy - bitch or dog - does anyone know of any that are available in the next 2-3 weeks or so (28/1/05)?

I have one small concern that both my partner and I will be out of the home all day from monday to friday - can anyone offer some advice on how to make the best of the situation - should be try working from home, go home at lunch-time????  Any advice welcome!

I'm in same situation as you where we work full time.

Most breeders who care for their dogs will want to know how you will take care of a pup and some will not even consider you if there is no-one at home during the day.

Especially when they are so young they will need constant care and supervision.

When we got Murph we took a few weeks off work and as we work flexi time he wouldnt be in the house alone longer than 2 hours at a time.  We also have a friend who does diy round the house so he was there too when we werent.

Even this is UNDERSTANDABLY not nearly enough for some breeders.

At least by asking now you can think about what you need to do and organise before you get one.

Working from home as much as possible and going home at lunch is a start but you may also want to think about is there anyone else you know who can come to your house when you aren't there.

Hi Anwen, I imagine you will have to wait quite a bit longer than 2 or 3 weeks - probably several months, maybe longer.  Most reputable breeders will have waiting lists, so it's probably a good idea to research what breeder(s) dogs you like the look of and then join the waiting list.  The right puppy should be worth the wait.  Try contacting the breed club, you can find details here:  http://www.welshterrierclub.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/. Also, visit with breeders and go along to some shows to get an idea of the different lines.

Terriers thrive on company, so working from home or making sure that they have plenty of company during the day is a must. ( any dogwalkers, relatives, neighbours who can visit?).
