My Mum has recently moved to a new home, which is too small for her and her dog.  Additionally, whilst she loves him dearly, he is as spaniels often are, a little to lively for her to look after as she would like.  After many tears, she has decided he would be happier being rehomed.  Gunner is a lovely 9 year old dog, extremely fit and more like a 2 year old with regard to his energy levels!  He has a lovely temperment and is like a baby with my 2 year old son, so an excellent family dog.  He was originally owned by a family who had to emigrate but whilst with them was a supurb family friend and trained gun dog.  Since my Mum has had him he has not been worked, but am sure it would all flood back again!

you could make sure he gets a loving home by passing him onto the breed rescue .

Your first port of call should be his breeder - if they are responsible they will certainly want to know.

Yes they may be quite shocked to realise he changed homes once already.  Breeders often get enquiries from former puppy owners who feel they would prefer to home an older dog when they aren't as young as they once were, or to keep an existing dog company.

So please do try and trace the breeder, or  failing that Breed specific rescue are more likely to find a home for an older dog.
