Hiya all,

Just had to see what anyone had to say about this!

My cocker bitch had a lovely litter last week.

I am a member of council of docked breeds, and was given an appointment to have their tails docked. This is my first litter but have friends who are breeders,
I went to the vet and wasnt impressed at the least, he had a horrible attitude he did the dew claws first then told me to hold the puppy while he was docking the tails, the way he held them and just shoved them about was unbelievable, i actually felt like slapping him and telling him to forget it, the room for a start off didnt seem very clean or professional, and he didn't seem very professional either, he was just horrible, felt like phoning council of docked breeds and telling them too. Has anyone else experienced this, i think i will have nightmares for months

Caroline

How awful. Hope the pups are OK and that you get some satisfaction from the CFDB.

Best wishes

Hi Caroline,

Firstly congrats on your litter - what colour are they? Have you decided which you're keeping?

I've no experience of docking puppies so I can't advise on the vets methods, but if you're not happy with the conditions or attitude then write to the practice manager and complain.

Good luck with your pups,

Fiona and the mad 22wk old Cocker bitch.

Caroline,

I think you should report this to the CDB as they recommended this vet to you in the first place. Hope the pups are ok.

Hiya leigh,

I have to report it cant get it out of my head, i really felt like telling him not to bother, my mum was with me and she is a theatre nurse and even she was disgusted. Thankfully the pups are all fine and recovered poor things they were not happy about it at all (dont blame them), ill let you know how i get on

hiya fiona and pam

They are all orange roan like their mum and dad, they are absoulutely beautiful, one of the dogs is nearly bigger than the two bitches, together, hes just a big bully, the bitches dont have get in there though(good for them eh!) i'm keeping the 5th one which is a bitch, was hoping there was going to be a bitch, there was 4 boys first then out popped the two girls, i was ecstatic. Its amazing how they are all changing, they all looked white when they were born but you can see how their markings are coming out now, i cant wait till they open their little eyes, you can watch them all day cant you anyway will have to go and see them now dont need a lot of encouraging.

I'd contact the CDB also. The vet who does mine comes to my house, usually with his family and they are really nice. Don't half pay for it though. I've only 2 this time to be done because the other 2 were born with natural bobtails. I don't have their claws done as they always scream their head off when they are done.

hiya the pups were born on Saturday, we got 2 girls and 4 dogs, they are all orange roan and georgous, the dogs are more like dad who is a quite big cocker and bitches are like mum who is petite, cant waut till they start running around.

hI ,I do hope your litter is over the tramuma of that so called vet
People are moaning that only a vet should dock tails and you get this idiot that
makes a complete bad experience of it.I am the first to complain about procedures on animals. But I must agree some breeds are better with a docked tail and If a qualified
Vet carries this procedure out you should not get any problems ,But one with an attitude he would have got a peace of my mind straight away .
