Holistic mixture is open to interpetation.... Holistic is the adjective of Holism.  Sitting comfortably?  Holism is the theory that the fundamental principle is the creation of wholes, ie: complete and self-contained systems from the atom and the cell by evolution to the most complex forms of life and mind; the theory that a complex entity, system etc, is more than merely the sum of its parts. Still sitting? :D
Holistic iin its intepretation can mean many different thing, but the basics is that you treat the person, or dog in this case as a whole.  Feeding a holistic mixture can mean a simple food without any additive, GMP, E no.s, etc. To feed Gluten free, wheat free, and additive free is technically not holistic, but can be generally classed as such, since the these are the most common cause of common ailments, and to remove these from foods is treating the whole body not just the sympton.

Holistic medecine, another interpretation.  Pain in back, Asprin, treats the sympton not the cause.(the diseased part) Acupunture, treats the whole person, physically and psychologically rather than treating merely the "diseased part"

Hope that helped, if not "sorry" :D

Holistic medicine attempts to treat both the mind and the body

After trawling through the search list, I have found the sentence you were refering to (feed tripe and a holistic mixture)

I use a mixture called Digestimate, it contains balanced micronutrients which help minimise stress related digestive disorders, (originally started using it for little Ollie) It is rich in beta-glucens which help the bodies natural immune system and helps maintain freedom from viral and bacterial infection.

This "may" be what Ailsa means as a holistic mixture

This, rather lengthy :), thread covers some of the issues of the several meanings of holistic http://www.champdogsforum.co.uk/cgi-bin/board/topic_show.pl?pid=446925#pid446925
To me it means everything is in there :)  Taking the context of this mixture you refer to, which I have not heard of, I suspect it is a group of supplements to make a diet complete rather that the rather more conventional interpretation of 'alternative' holistic which is generaly wholefood, organic etc. but of course I could be wrong ;), perhaps someone else who actually uses it will come along in time.

Hi Isabel, I personally dont class Digestimate as a holistic mixture :D ,  although some might.  I use it simply for trying to get little Ollie's stomach problems back on track.  He is as right as rain now, though I dont know if the mixture helped or it would have gone back to normal anyway. As I said, "holistic" is open to interpretation.  I feed raw, but I have no idea what is given to the animals in the way of feeds etc before slaughter, so I could not say that I feed my dogs holistically.  :D . I only suggested that this "type" of mixture 'could' have been what Ailsa was talking about, but of course I am probably wrong ;)

I was referring to Welshie's mixture :)

Do you mean a holistic mixer ??? I give my dogs Natural Choice Holistic Mixer. It is very good and the dogs love it, which is good enough for me :)
