Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / AA advert

Murphy is 10 months now but ever since he's been with us and the AA advert with the whistling has been on the tv ive whistled along with it and played with him.

Now every time it comes on, no matter what i am doing, he gets up to find me and expects a wrestle.

Anyone else 'trained' their dogs to react to things on the tv?

He loves nature prgrammes too.

I'd also like to say that everytime im sitting at the computer he also tries to come and sit on me.

As a pup i would lift him up! oh dear

Ha, i think then that there should be a new prize at crufts then, for dogs who can email the fastest!

My mum and dad are Eastender addicts. When ever the title music goes up at the end of the programme, their dog Ben is up and running around with a toy in his mouth as they have always played with him at the end of the programme. Now he associates the theme music with play time!

Sounds like a clever dog knowing the difference between the theme at the start and the end! If theyre addicts what would happen if he expected play at the start!
- By Joules [gb] Date 25.01.05 16:21 UTC
I think he used to try to play at the start, but got shouted at rather than played with...! He is 12 years old though, so he's had a lot of time to assosiate and get it right!

When I was younger, our old ESS would always know that when the 'Neighbours' theme tune came on (at the end), it was time for her tea! :)

Goes to show how clever dogs are especially when we expose them to things like neighbours and eastenders! (i also watch both)

My first dog used to be fed at tea time - after Blue Peter and, in those days, Emmerdale Farm - then the silly BBC started showing a BP omnibus on Sunday mornings, so Digger expected to be fed on Sunday mornings too........

Ha, any excuse!. Ive seen some of your posts and now i understand your username!

my dog all respond to the soap theme tunes,ie they think its time to get out for a quick wee before the next one starts!
they also respond to me "locking" my phones keypad,as thats a signal we are off somewhere. & flynn responds to the till opening at work as a cue that we may be off to the bank.

Its really amazing the things they pick up. Goes to show how hard and easy training can be.

Also shows that a lot of us watch soaps!

Any documentary fans out there, human and canine!

I've realised my post was similar to another one but i hadnt seen the other one at the time.

Lot of musical dogs out there too

When I left Dylan with my mother while on a field trip once she started always feeding him at the Emmerdale ad break. As it was quite sweet to see his little eyes light up I just carried on (now watch Emmerdale whereas I never used to!). Luckily the ad tune has changed slightly, so he no longer confuses the beginning/end as the dinner bell. The puppy hasn't quite associated it yet, but has figured out then when Dylan jumps out of his crate and stands in front of me frantically wagging his tail then something good must be about to happen

:-)

p.s there's a sqeuaky gate sound on some commercial that starts him barking at the door. must sound like our own squeaky gate!
- By juliemil [gb] Date 27.01.05 10:35 UTC
What a good guard dog! Dont oil that gate!
- By nitody [gb] Date 27.01.05 11:51 UTC
hee hee.. trust me, he doesn't need to hear the gate to be the best guard dog in the world...ever! But it's a good reason not to go out and oil it ;-) He's pretty darn perceptive tho. If me or my mother open the gate he won't even get out of bed, but if anybody else does then it's like world war 3!
- By juliemil [gb] Date 27.01.05 11:53 UTC
Is that just another way of saying that he likes to chat.... just being social...like our Murph and cats..mm
- By thomas-the-spot [gb] Date 29.01.05 07:59 UTC
Thank god it is not just my dog which goes nuts at this advert!  Thomas sings or as my husband suggests howls to this everytime it comes on.  He throws his head back and lets rip.  He can be fast asleep but the minute it starts off he goes.
