I've read somewhere that ACV is good to give to dogs but I can't remember wherabouts I've seen it. Dementia setting in :) Can someone help me. How, when and how much would you use? Also how is it given? I bought some and when I tasted it, I can't imagine the dogs thinking too much to it. Yuk!!

I believe its good for detoxifying, am I right?
I add a teaspoon to all my dogs drinking water every day, None of mine have a problem with the Taste, although i do buy mine from the health food shops as i was told it is better quality than what you buy at the supermarkets.

Same here :)
ACV has been touted a wonder product, chock full of minerals and health giving properties.Books have been written about it,it is great for their skin and coat,it helps digest bones and food, gives them more energy especially when kelp is also given.
The list goes on and on.
I have a few books and articles about it.Just ask what you want to know and i shall look it up for you.
The benefits are too many to list here :)
ACV was mentioned on the Health Board by ChloeH, on the thread about Arthritis, if that was the one you were thinking about. Sue

Yep - thats correct. We use it for the horses. I am tempted to start taking it myself - its done wonders for my arthritic mare!
Isn't it supposed to be good to take if you are dieting? or is that just Cider Vinegar. On second thoughts cider is made from apples anyway. Der brain, have got some in my cupboard from the last time I tried weight reduction. That's as far as it got, in the cupboard. Sue

Yes, I'd read it's good for weight reduction, hence my taking it :)
I did put some in with some bio yogurt and manuka honey for my girl and she actually ate it all up

Putting it in the drinking water won't do any good as they don't drink very much so most of it would get thrown away the next day. But at least I have found a way to get it into her.
I gave her 1 teaspoon of it, with 1 teaspoon honey and 1 teaspoon of yogurt. she weighs about 22lbs. Does this sound about the right amount, and how often would you give it? Every day or once or twice a week maybe?
Thanks for all your help
Anne
Hi ANNDEE, I wouldn't know about the quantities myself, but if you click on rose's reply button on her posting, and ask, she would probably be able to tell you, next time she's on. I'm glad I wasn't imagining it, about being good for weight reduction, thanks for that :p Sue

Anndee what breed of dog do you have? I add it to their drinking water everyday, they wont take it if it's in their food.
I add a tablespoon to about 1 litre of water, that seems to do the job with my bull mastiffs as well as my smaller terriers.
You could start off with a teaspoon and work up to a tablespoon or more. My dogs have no health probs,so i stick to the above amount.
Don't know if it's of any help rose, but did you know you can get ACV in capsule form? Thought it might be easier to put in food, if some dogs won't drink it in water ;) Sue

Hello Rose.
I have two Tibetan Terrors, sorry Terriers!!!
Mum Tara, 6 years old and her daughter Safi, 17 months old. It's Safi who is the pain, where diet is concerned.
I think though I have found a way to give her ACV. I put a teaspoon each of ACV, Manuka honey and Bio Yogurt, mix it all up and she'll drink it that way ;) I'm just giving it a couple of times a week. Do you think it needs to be more than this? Do you think the capsules would be as good as the real liquid?
I must say, I am delighted to tell everyone that has been helping me with her diet eg. Advising going onto barf and the giving supplements etc. That, at long last, she seems to have stopped itching and scratching :D :D :D
So I'm giving a Big Up to everyone who's helped and guided me through the change over. Many, many, many thanks. I wish I'd done it sooner.
So any Doubting Thomas's out there who are wondering about putting your dog onto a raw food and bones diet. GO FOR IT!!!!!!!
I haven't had this problem before, with any of my other dogs in the past, so until you do get one with digestive problems leading to skin problems, you take feeding for granted. But boy when you get one with disorders do you know about it :(
Thanks again
Anne

First let me just clarify,i have spaniels not terriers,i must have terriers on the brain!!!
Anndee what you described sounds fine, manuka and yogurt are 2 absolutely brill foods. If you want you can give it more times per week, but if you and your dogs are happy, leave it as it is :)
I have never seen the capsules, they would be awesome for the dogs who dont like acv taste, there are alot of em' out there, and i really cant blame them,i went out and bought a huge bottle of acv saying to myself i'm going to have a big glassfull every morning, well on the first morning i only managed to take a sip and i just couldnt go any further! That stuff puts hairs on yer chest and i only added 1 tsp. to a big glass of water :D I shall try mixing it with some honey, maybe it wont taste so foul!!

You really shouldn't talk about your mother in law like that Chloe!
:D :D :D
I don`t give any supplements on a regular basis. Of the opinion they need be given only when necessary. I have given organic apple cider vinegar at the ratio of teaspoon per dog daily, mixed in with their food. My Labs weigh on average 28-35 kl. If I wanted to detox my dogs for whatever reason I`d buy herbal/h/pathic detox remedy from reliable sources :)
Ande, is there a specific reason why you are giving your dogs these supps?
Tried the acv/honey & something else I can`t remember now, for myself for arthritis about 7/8yrs ago....:eek

& double grossest thing I ever tasted urghhhhhhh :D :D gave up after 4wks.....

Hi Christine. I'm giving her these supplements as she has had digestive problems leading to skin problems, which we are now getting on track with and I wanted to de-toxify her to help her skin itching, so relieving her of her discomfort, and it seems to have done the trick as she hasn't scratched now since Wednesday. And it was getting unbearable. She's been like it for the last 3/4 months and I wanted to sort it out asap. Once I know she is on an even keel, then I will cut them down and maybe even stop giving them. I must agree, I've tried ACV myself and it tastes vile, but it is supposed to be good stuff and lots of people swear by it. My mother in law for one, and she's 92.
I can't give thanks enough to all the people who have helped me on Champ Dogs. They have been wonderful
Anne
Hi Ande, I see! That what I did with my lot, then when saw they were ok tailed them off :)
You can also get herbal h/pathic detox remedies solely for that purpose, I`ve used them as well & will be using them for Sweepy after she`s finished her a/bs after her spey op.
The acv I put in with their veggies, add a little meat/liver or eggs blend it all together then honey on the top & my lot wolf it down :D
Good news about the itching!!! :)

Hi Christine
I have seen the herbal detox remedies for humans, would you use those? I haven't seen any for dogs. What quantities do you use, if you use ther human ones, and how often? If there is a make for dogs can you tell me what it is please and I will give that a try.
Many thanks
Anne
Hi Andee, I get mine from the link below & they`re for animals :)
http://www.caninecaregroup.netClick on remedies for what they have. They come with full instructions & you can email them for more information/advice. Have a look around the site, loads of useful info on supps etc :)

Very interesting and useful site to know about. Thanks for that Christine. Got a bit blinded by science :D but I have put it into 'My Favourites' so I can keep checking it out.
The bit about ACV was interesting. I will try putting just one drop in her food and increase it by 1 drop a day and see how we go with that, but things have certainly improved with her, and all in less than a month as well so I am very, very pleased with her progress.
Cheers Anne
I keep all mine in favs too Ande sometimes takes ages to find the one I want :D
Long may she keep up the improvement :)
