Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Testicular problems with my Leo
- By Guest [gb] Date 26.01.05 12:31 UTC
Hi. Has any one out there ever experienced testicular problems in Leo's ? Alfie is 5 1/2 months old and has had an emergency castration recently. The testicles were rock hard and full of infection. They had not contorted. One testicle was mono orchid. The infection also travelled through the testical cord but luckily did not go into the kidneys. The infection also produced many blood clots and the testical cord was roughly 20 times it normal size. Poor Alfiue was in agony !

If anyone has experienced this with their Leo ( or any breed of dog) ,  is there any long term problems i should look out for ?

For the first two days the Vet though the dog had cardiac problems as his breathing was shallow and heart rate erratic. It was because he was in so much pain but did not whine at all !

I would appreciate any help at all.

Thank you.

Thats dreadful for such a young dog, I hope he recovers quickly.
A "Monorchid" is a dog with one testicle, is this what Alfie was?  Many monorchid dogs suffer in later life with infection, testiculat tumours etc... primarilly due to the fact that the retained testicle is being kept at a much higher temperature than it should be, i.e outside of the body.  As I said I have not heard of such a problem in a puppy.
