Hi Julie, I'm also in Edinburgh and I used to volunteer at one of the cat rescues-there was nothing special about me, I just wanted to help, would turn up regularly and would take home a cat (or three! :D ) when I fell in love with one! :) I know a few people who also volunteer at places and there was no requirements for them either, other than that they were eager to help and could be relied upon.
Why not give a few places a ring-there's the Cat & Dog home, the SSPCA, Dogs Trust (might be a bit far out if you don't have transport) and see what they say as regards volunteering? Trying to think where else there is! A few other cat ones, but if you wanted a mix of animals, the SSPCA at Balerno might be better, but depends how far you are from there! Anyway, give them a ring, and see what they say and that way you know exactly what you'll be facing! Good luck with it, it's a great thing to do, just make sure you don't fall in love too many times or your partner may stop you going incase you bring home any more strays... :) ;)
Thanks, i also have two cats so working with them would be a pleasure too!
Only ones i knew were down at seafield or out of edinburgh so thanks!
Had alook at the website for guide dogs as they ask for respite carers ie when the trainers have a hol.
Would this be ok considering we have a dog, two cats and are looking for another pup?
As you live in edinburgh, if you hear of any golden retriever litters could you let me know?
Would prefer to get one from a breeder who is known as a good one. Don't look at classifieds so its hard when u just have kennel club as a contact.
I live near the gyle so if your ever out near there would be nice to meet you! more so for Murphs socialisation!
Hi again, I forgot about the
Dog Aid Society - have a look under "news" and they have details of their Dog Walking club (might be good for your Murphy!) and they also ask you to ring them if you would like to help. :) Goldies are not my breed, but should I hear of anything, I will be sure to let you know. Have you been in touch with the breed club to ask them for recommendations? All their members will at least have to stick to the Club's code of ethics which is always a good place to start! :) And as I'm up by Morningside and not far from you at all really, I'm sure we could let our dogs all rampage about together at some point! :)
