Hi Everyone,

I wanted to let you all know about a lawn feed someone has bought and has called us to tell us that it could have been responsible for the death of their dog.

The product is made by 'Miracle Grow', based in Godalming in Surrey and was bought at a Hombase store. It is not a weed killer or anything and so probably doesn't have to have labelling approved by the pesticide people and therefore warnings (we are looking into it to make sure). It's just called Miracle Grow Lawn Feed.

Apparently, about an hour after the feed was put down, their dog was found unconcious (sp?) and was taken straight to the vet who could do nothing and the dog had to be PTS. As a result their other family dog has also been PTS was very old (19) and pining so much for the first dog had made it very ill.

It's not been confirmed that the Lawn Feed was the cause, but as there is no warning on the box about it being dangerous to pets or children I wanted to let you know. Just in case.

Lou,
If it's the same Miracle Grow that's been used for decades in the States, somehow there's a horrible omission concerning the packaging for UK usage. My old box of the stuff has warnings on it not to let children or pets around it for at least 12 hours after application. I remember it off the top of my head because I've used it for around 5 years. If you like, I'll try to dig up where it was last in the garage just to make sure.

Thanks :)
One of the officers here at work looking is into it. If there is something missing that should be on the box - and it sounds like there is - then they'll certainly be doing something about it.
I haven't seen the packaging, but someone's going out to buy it today I think............Could be the same stuff that's in the US though. Anything that's on the box over there and not here could be down to something really daft like the law not saying it needs to be shown. It seems that manufacturers only tell you what they have to. Which is a real shame for the poor dog and it's family :(
If you do find the box, please do let me know what it says..... would be very grateful! Thanks again :)

Hell, I have just poured a pile of Miracle Grow onto my clematis, well I did it last night actually so its too late now. Something else to worry about, mind you Floyd is such a lazy devil its hard to tell if he's unconcious or not:D

Sounds like there's hope for our Shad yet! He's been a loony boy for last few evenings :D - running around like a mad thing, chasing flies, birds, blossom, leaves, me...... mental puppy!! Maybe he'll grow up to be all laid back like his Uncle Floyd :) Here's hoping! ;)

Seriously though, the stuff seemed to affect the dog within an hour of being put down, so after that it shouldn't be a worry.

Hi Lou,
Unfortunately, it looks as if my hubby tossed it when he did his mass spring cleaning before he left. There is a new box of the stuff that we bought at the BX here in Germany. It's the same as what you are talking about...Salisbury House, Weyside park address. Everything is in Kilo & grams, so it's a subsidiary product of the American company.

There's a product website at www.miraclegro.com. I looked around & they didn't really discuss product warnings. But there is a contact page, if you'd like to send in a query about product warning & safety.
Sorry, I couldn't help you out anymore than this.
toodles

Thanks for all that, I really appreiciate it :) I'm going to pass all the info across to the officer that's dealing with it and see what they come up with.
Hopefully it'll get sorted out asap and if any warnings are needed then the packaging over here will be updated. Will be nice to tell the person who called in that we're sorting it out too, not that it's any consolation really, but it could make a difference.
