Has anyone used one of these. I have used a halti but this seems less intrusive around the eyes for the dog. Any idea what size would I need for a GWP?

I use the halti that goes round the belly nad has a clip at the dogs back and round the front where it clips onto the collar so we have two connections for the lead.  Works well with Murph

I use a Gentle Leader on my little pulling machine :)
He still pulls but not quite as much as he would on an ordinary lead. In his 3 short years I've tried just about everything - apart from the device described by juliemil, which sounds quite effective.  What name is it sold under, juliemil ? and do you know if you can buy them on-line ?

So sorry but can't remember. What i did tho at the time was type in halti on the internet. The manufacturers had a site.  They had the one round the face but had this other one.

They also have an offer on at the mo too where if you bought the harness you got the leed free.

If I find it i will let you know.

I would just say one thing about the antipull harnesses for anyone wanting to show their dog, they can really spoli your dogs front action.  A freind used one on her Elkie bitch that I showed and I was gobsmacked at how bad she was in front, but after stopiing using it and some sensible roadwork she had tightened up nicely.

You must remember that it is only muscle that holds the dogs front assembly onto the ribs they do not have shoulder sockets like we do, so any pulling in that area will have an effect.

Is that what mine is?

I was told get a halti and i was bamboozled by all the products. Felt Murphy wasnt that bad on a lead and therefore the mouth one wasnt the way to go.

Must admit i love the one i use tho as if you get your lead balanced between the two points its just like a standard lead with an added bit on his back.

He has come on leaps and bounds but I think thats because we're a bit more generous now in using treats as a reward!

The Halti is the original Headcollar maufactured by this company, not familiar with their harness, but it is the Lupi one that I am talking about, and also it rubs under the armpits if your dog is short coated, though a never version has some rubber that slides along the cords to keep under there to reduce this effect.

Mot seen this one before, but doesn;'t look as if it would cause the problem I described :D

Did you check out the site? There's so many. Its good to see such a huge choice out there but totally shows what a huge business animal products earn.

The houseline to bme is a gimmick, as you just need a plain puppy lead, even if you cut the handle off, or a piece of string attached to an old lead clip.
- By juliemil [gb] Date 26.01.05 16:29 UTC
Gimmicks was the word i was looking for in my previous post.

If youre inexperienced like i am you can end up spending a complete and utter fortune on products that you may hardly use.

gentle controller is imo better than the gl

Thanks for the link Juliemil, I checked it out and liked the look of the Halti Harness. I use a halti on my Lab as she is a very big and strong lab. She doesn't pull all the time, just the odd occasion if a cat rushes past and if I don't have her on the halti, I just don't have the strength to hold her and have ended up on the floor a couple of times!! I don't like using the Halti on her all the time as she sometimes rubs on the floor to get it off her face, which makes me think it must irritate her. I'm wondering if the Halti harness would enable me to hang onto her if she decided to lunge? or if it's not quite as effective as the head collar?
- By juliemil [gb] Date 26.01.05 17:04 UTC
You may have better control when walking ur dog with the face one but in respect of lunging the harness does give you a better sense of control because its a balance between his front and his back.  Im only 5.2 and murph is quite strong but i find it good and ive tried lots of things.

ps When we got it it took us a while to figure out what attached to what!

Thanks, I guess it's worth a try!

Thanks for the link, Juliemil.  I've just had a look at the site but it seems that the halti harness wouldn't be suitable for my dog.  It's not recommended for the Lhasa Apso and Shih Tzu so I doubt it would be OK for a Lowchen.
Like other people here I've spent a small fortune trying to find something that'll stop him pulling.  I'm thinking of offering him to the manufacturers to be a kind of test dog for their products :)

Such a wee shame.

Janet (Becketts) who has maremmas has been on a t touch course and put me in touch with someone up here when we had Mia.

Unfort we had decided to giver her back but maybe you could contact her about things you could do to relax your dog in general which may then help the lead training.

Just an idea, may not work for everyone.

We have a large GL on our GWP

Its more secure around the back of the neck and less on the nose IMO than the Halti
