Hi, We have a 20 month old male Vizsla and are very pleased with the progress he has made. We have spent a lot of time training him both ourselves and taking him to dog obedience classes, as you can imagine, we are very proud of him and love him dearly. We feel he would benefit greatly if we were to get another male for him, but are unsure when the right time would be to get another one. We love the colour of our dog ( a very dark rich russet) and have discovered that most of the Vizslas we see are the lighter colour, we would love another Vizsla the same colour as 'Flod', but don't know the breeders to ask.
Hope you can help,
Calum & Caroline Scott (Shetland)

Welcome to the forum :-)
Have you considered going back to your original breeder for another puppy? If you like the type and temperament, then that would be my first port of call for another dog. I personally, like a minimum of two years between my dogs and have found this works out very well for all concerned.
Good luck with your search.

Have to agree, approach your older dogs breeder, who if not breeding her/himself may know of a closely related litter being planned!
I to would say minimum of two year gap in age. The bigger the breed more gap to allow for generally slower mental maturity!

Hi Leigh, thanks for the info, unfortunately we cannot go back to the breeder we got 'Flod' from as we had alot of problems with her. It took 6 months of hounding her to get 'Flod's' pappers from her and she was not very nice about it. So, you understand we would rather not go down that route again, do you know of any kennels breeding the darker Vizslas?

Don't blame you wanting another one - will be in the same boat (already am actually) by next year. Mine is now 16 months and just the best breed ever!

Hi Shirley, thanks for the info, I am from Skye and we are having our first holiday there with Flod this year - we are really looking forward to it. I can't go back to the breeder we got Flod from as we had a lot of problems with her - it took 6 months of hounding to get Flod's pappers from her, so we would rather go somewhere else. Which breeder did you get your Vizsla from?
Caroline.
