Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / looking for a dalmatian stud dog in scot

Hi

We would like to breed our pedigree bitch and are looking for possible pedigree stud dogs that would be suited to her.  She has passes all the necessary tests and is of good temperment.  Does anyone know of anyone in Scotland.  All your helpful comments would be appreciated.

Many thanks in advance

Your first port of call should be her breeder, who, if knowledgeable, will know what lines will suit your bitch. If there's no help from that quarter, then contact the secretary of the Dalmatian Club of Scotland who should be able to advise you.

Hi Jeangenie

Thanks for your reply. When you say what lines are suited to her - how do I know what lines she is from - does it go by their pedigree name and of their parents pedigree.  Im new to this but everyone has to start somewhere!  Any knowledgable info you can provide me with would be great.

Thank You

I'm sure Jeangenie will be along soon but just in case she has gone to bed :) there is such a lot to learn in the breeding game but as you say you have got to start somewhere and your bitches breeder is the very best place to start.  After she has confirmed that your bitch merits breeding I would ask her what she was aiming for when she paired your dogs parents follow this by having a good look at whatever dogs she has at home and any pictures she can show you from others in the line, this will give you some clues as to where you could take it, next I would attend a few shows, perhaps you would enjoy showing your bitch too but this is not for everyone, and having taken note of any dogs that you think would complement what you have got take your ideas back to her and let her advise accordingly.  This way you will develop your own eye under the guidance of a mentor.

Yes, you'll find out what lines she's bred from by studying her pedigree - hopefully there will be several generations of names with the same 'affix' (like a surname, though it usually comes at the beginning of the name) which will show that her background contain at least one line from a single breeder, and someone like this is a good person to contact to ask for advice because they'll have a lot of the background health etc of the individuals named.

If you click on my name then [Message] at the right-hand side you can send me a Personal Message with the names on her pedigree and I might be able to give you contact names of people who could help.
:)
