Has any one ever taken their dog/s with them when they have been to a ski resort?
My OH has started to get into his snowboarding again and suggested that maybe next year we could save up, rent a Chalet and take Emmy (our Lab) with us. She will be 3 and a half by then and I wouldn't be into the skiing part of the holiday so would be with her most of the time. I have no idea if this is a practical thing to do or not, I know a lot of the chalets say pets are welcome, but apart from all the obvious travel considerations of taking our dog with us, is there anything else to think about?
Any one been anywhere they could recommend?
Any thoughts appreciated, it would be such good fun seeing her romp around in the snow - she adored it last year when we had a good few inches - would a few feet be a lot different though?
Thanks.
I'll also be interested in the answers to this thread as I am considering getting a pet passport for my two and taking them to the Alps for some skijourning (which should be interesting :p)
I would like to get a pet passport too and maybe get a villa somewhere, I have noticed though that there are many restrictions on the number of dogs you have. I am looking for a week away in cornwall and many of the places restrict you to one dog only or two. I have three! Does anyone know of any sites that cater for holidays with people who have multiple dogs?
I rekon dogs would prefer skiing to hot weather any day, much more fun for them :-)
Thanks

I live in France and I can tell you that in terms of walking your dog many of the mountain areas in France and Switzerland are Natural Reserves this can mean that dogs are not allowed at all in some areas and only on the lead in others. There are frequently no signs so it is best to check which areas are suitable with the tourist office first.
If you choose a more remote resort I would think that you would have a better time with your dog, some resorts have special 'pistes' that you can take your dog on, cross country skiing etc. In many of the popular ski resorts there are lots of people in the winter season - it can be packed. We do ski-jorring with our dogs on pistes which allow dogs...
The French are quite relaxed about dogs in restaurants and public places and some chalets do allow dogs but not all of them.
The dogs do like the snow but when it is too deep it is hard going for them and you will need to protect your dogs feet as the pads can get damage.
