my bitch was mated 21 days ago. could anyone advise me whether i should get her scanned or her blood tested.i have been told by other breeders that if the pups are hidden in the rib cage a scan doesnt pick them up. alsowhats the ealiest i can have them done very anxious that she is under medical care early on in pregnancy.

I'd have her scanned.
Best time is 30 days post mating. Can be done earlier, but this time is best.

my girls are normally scanned on day 28, never caused any problems in the past!

Personally I would never Xray a pregant bitch though! (not for pregnancy diagnosis or routine x-rays) Obviously if the bitch were ill & needed an x-ray that would be different.
