Hello. I have recently relocated to the UK from Australia, with my partner and young son. We are looking for an Australian Shepherd to join our family. My partner has previously raised and trained an Australian Shepherd (called kelpie at home) for farm work/ family companion. We are looking for a pup with a good working pedigree, who is to become a companion and family member as well. We have settled on the edge of the Halton Woods near Wendover, Bucks. Our strong colour preference is for a red (without merle) pup. We are not greatly interested in breeding or showing the dog. If there are any breeders with litters available now, or in the near future, with likely suitability, could you please e-mail me, or send an e-link to your website at trudijones@msn.com.
With thanks, Trudi Jones

Your best way to go is to contact either/both of the Breed Clubs. The secretary of ASCUK is Sara Green: sarahgreen3@aol.com or the secretary of NASA is Angie Challenger: Lyveden@msn.com . Each club should have a 'puppy co-ordinator' who should be aware of current/future litters.
Have you seen

Daisy and Gabrielle. The shepherding gdog the poster refers to 'Kelpie' can be seen here: http://www.wkc.org.au/ and here:
http://www.kelpiesinc.com/kelpie_registry/working_kelpie_photos.htm
very different to the Aussie Shepherd breed from the USA.
The breed standard can be found here:

Aha there are Kelpies in the UK & best place to look is the Farmers Weekly Newspaper as they are the working strain & not the show dogs
Huntaaways are totally different they are bred to bark the sheep & not herd they as per BC(the working ones are called Header dogs on sheep stations) & Kelpies
I think most of the Kelpies may be in Wales

Ah that is interesting. So no one id looking to get them KC recognised. ehat are breeders using as a Registry? Can they be ISFDS registered? I didn't realise thet the American Kennel Club accepted regisrations from overseas residents. Woudl seemn a shame if the stock is all unregistered, as will make record keeping harder.
Glad for the OP that they can get what they are looking for :D :D

The ISDS did have the chance of adding the working kelpies as opposed to the show kelpies as part of a separate register but the then NEC of the ISDS turned them down & I believe they have their own registry like the working beardies & the Welsh Sheepdogs etc
LOL the americans have an "English"Shepherd, NOT the Old type of GSD but a dog that looks very much like the Sealight BC's !!! but s bit bigger

I really think that a country's name should only be in a breeds name if they really are from that country as it gets very confusing. Can't understand why the Austrailan Shepherd couldn't ahve been named the American shephered as links to Australia are pretty tenuous, Spain was in there too wasn't it?? As for English Shepherd???

very logical reason...aussies came via aussie, americans thought they where from aussie, they didn't come from america!

Tha Australian Shepherd we have here in UK is the American breed that looks to the uninitiated like a tailless thickset Border Collie. We do not have Kelpies in the UK, There are Austrailan Cattle dogs though, though they are a rare breed.

We do have kelpies in the UK, I know loads that do agility, if you want to get in touch with me then I can try and find out where there are breeders. They are becoming a very popular breed in agility and certaintly match the collie in speed.

Guest I wondered if New Zealand Huntaways are similar enough to Kelpies for you, as I beleive, or have heard of Huntaway stock (unregistered) being bred in the Sout West of England.

I assumed that kelpie was the dogs name....

Well as the American breed caled the Austrailian shepherd is unknown or little known in austraila, and the poster wanted working stock I assumed they were after Kelpies which are an Austrailan breed, but unless the OP answers we shan't know :D Hope she does.

Aussies are in australia, they are not the most popular breed but are known well enough that people may enquire about them!
But liek you said we shall never know unless OP does correct one of us!

Also want to add kelpies don't come in mearl, OP said not mearl, leading to think a colour in breed in mearl...I may be wrong!
Someone correct me if I am wrong....please!

One of th4e pics I saw on the working site was a merle, but it isn't emtnioned in the standard. am really intrigued now :D :D
Hi Trudi
If it is an australian kelpi you are looking for and not the shephard then i might be able to help you as i have a friend who has working kelpie here in the UK, sadly it is not a breed recognised by the KC yet so they will not be registered here in the UK but will be AKC registered.
Click on my name for email contact.
