I have a 9 month old cavalier dog and would to know the criteria for breeding purposes should I decide to take any action, if the conditions are favourable.

I would appreciate any advice.

Have a look at the first post on the 'breeding' forum of this site. Of course he will be heart-tested and have passed all the breed-relevent health tests.

Before you can safely offer your cavalier at stud he must be at least  2 1/2 years old have a current clear heart & eye(test nust be done by a BVA panelist minimum cost £12 if done at a session at a show or similar) certificate(they are only valid for one year) & be screened by MRI for syringohydramyelia(cost is in the £200 area) & not have any close relatives that have SHM Having your dog hip scored is also advisable cost around £100 mark

You must also ensure that you are not line breeding on both side of the pedigree

Having done all that the only way to get bitch owners to use your dog is for them to see him in the ring doing breed, obedience etc

You also must ensure the bitches have all the above tests done as well & you will be joitly responsible for any puppies produced for the whole of their lives

Be prepared for your dog possibly  start marking in the house

Bear in mind you might do all these tests & no one will want to use your dog
