Ive got a 4 year old lab cross who up until a few months ago was very active and very naughtly!
However he has now been diagnosed with adisons but is still acting very strange, although he seems ok on the meds that the vet has put him on his behaviour is very saddening.
He has started to be very confused and staying in his bed lots, not very responsive and at times looks very dazed.
A couple of days ago I noticed that his pupil was a different size to the other one!
Im sure that this is not a good sign.
Also when I take him out for his usual much loved walks he seems to be walking into the road and bumping into things.
I feel that he may have some kind of brain disease, I did call the vets and are waiting on their call.
What does anyone else think????
Please help im really desperate!

The above website is all about Addisons disease, there are alot of good links.

I've had experience of cats suffering bad reactions to vaccinations. The enlarged pupil did indeed in their case indicate brain damage. One cat went on to suffer other symptoms and didn't pull through but the other is still alive today. Her eye is still and always will be enlarged, she's lost the sight in it and the lens has detached, her behaviour can be erratic and she is very docile nowadays. Addison's disease is a deficiency in steroid production of the adrenals, and when the cats had adverse reactions to vaccs it was steriods the vet used to treat them.

Before they diagnosed addisons, did they test for other diseases? Did they vaccinate him? Don't be scared to get a second opinion elsewhere, even if it is for peace of mind. It may be his meds just need altering slightly but if you suspect brain damage you are right to take action asap. What meds is he on at the moment?

Hello there, well Bens meds list is endless, he has epilepsy and when speaking to the she vets indicated that may be Bens problems are brain related and always have been.
Ben has florinef, prednisolone, epilease and vivitonin.
My vet has been fantastic, she tested him for ads twice to make sure and kept him in 3 days to check him out his heart rate etc.
Today Bens not been all that good, the results came as I expected and they feel that Ben brain disease is very advanced, because of the pressure in his head its making him have bad headaches.

I'm sorry to hear your troubles Rachel. It is sometimes known as "The great deceiver" because the symptoms mimic so many other ailments. You are very lucky if your vet has diagnosed it in time! A friend's Flatcoat had this but unfortunately her vet treated it for other things first, before Addison's was finally diagnosed.

Caught in time Addison's is treatable but left too late then the prognosis is not good. It is a very serious ailment and to be blunt, extremely life threatening.

I have a Vet College "Hand out" on diagnosis and treatment which we acquired at the time of my friend's trouble and if you like to PM me your email addy I'll scan it in and email it to you.

Regards, John
