Briedog my OHs sister lives in Hersham how far is that away from you as she is looking for a new hairdresser and the one she went to last week charged her £90 to colour her hair ginger (not what she asked for) she needs someone who will tell her straight if something is not going to suit her.

Please (please - please - please :D ) do tell which colourant is best for giving really red hair ??  my daughter is fed up of paying in the salon for a permanent red and it only lasts about two weeks   she's after pillar box red but if thats impossible then whats the next best thing?  

im a hairdresser too most reds ready  fade quickly ive done pillar box red on sister in law it was realy good lasted time,but it was bought from a hairdressing trade shop called sally,the is another place its a shop called tiger lilly  in oxford i dont know if they have shops else where they are semi-permenent but are realy wild and last,but i cant remember what the colour is called but the bottle is see through and it looks like faulse blood,but colours every thing it touches its about 6 pound and we use half at a time

it is best to have the salon one but intense colours last long than the nomal fashion colours,plus it depends on the products the shop use on your daugther,this is the same subject with had with abbymu,red do not last as long as dark and blondes.if you find out what producted they put on you daugther hair the we can find a colour for her,the shop should give you details they are not allow not too you have them.

She asked and paid for an intense permanent red, but it washed out in two weeks :(  no colour left at all, it also didn't change her own medium brown hair, which I found odd.  Personally I think they used a colour bath ;)  She's absolutely sick of salons who take her money but don't seem to use the right products.  The best result she's ever had so far was with a shop bought one which I applied for her. At the moment she's using a LIVE colourant at home but would like to have real pillar box red. 

Hi this is Mr Briedog I would just like to say that it is impossible to give advice with out seeing the head of hair. But as a salon owner I would say that most salons are very professional about colour. If you intened to have a colour for the first time or even a change in colour, there are a few things that you should ask for, book in for a free conseltation, talk through what colour you are looking for, ask if they would take a cutting of your hair and try two or three colours or shades of red, this again should be free of charge, ask if your hair is in good anogh condition to have colour,go back the next day and have a look at the result and if you are happy ask about the price and what is included, for that price. as was said reds are very hard to stay in the hair but with the right shampoos conditioners and treatments they should last but your stylist should advise you on the correct product for your hair. these professional products are more expensive but are highly concentrated and used properly will work out cheaper in the long run, lets say you have spent £60 to £70. in the salon on your colour that is quite an investment so you should look after it properly, so take the stylists advice pay that little extra for the shampoo and conditoner and you should not have any problem and if you do, go staight back to the salon and complain any good salon would then put it right, if you dont tell the salon ,you are not happy, they will keep making the same mistakes, and go out of business. so my advice is go along to your local salon and talk to them first, you may be suprised

Thanks for that Briedog Sir, I'll pass this on to her :) although it looks like she'll have to travel a bit further to get that kind of service ;) sadly the local salons don't want to have a chat first let alone do any trials on pieces of hair   She does buy the recommended shampoos to help it last, and went back but all she was told was that these colours don't last :rolleyes:  She's very lucky with her hair, looks after it and its in amazing condition considering that it's coloured such a bright red (but more natural - not what she wants really) the one she's used this time (LIVE colour from a supermarket) has grown out about 1/2 inch (being sensible she allows it to grow out inbetween so that it stays in good condition) and still looks amazing  She has a choppy, punky hairstyle (stick it up/slick it down ;) ) and is a hairdressers dream - up for anything as long as it's extreme :D

I am now in my early fifties am natural redhead of course colour has darkened over the years but I have hardly any grey hair at all
am I lucky or is it just natural red hair that doenst go grey early is it true it tends to go white eventually

1 of my clients was a natural redhead she in her mid 50sand going grey at the sides and about 25% over the head so i put on 8/34 as a colour bath which last up to 6 weeks she happy with this a this is near to her natural colour this may not be the 1 for you with looking at you the reason she has a colour bath she dosent want a permarment colour.yet but time while come when the grey is 50 to 75% and the colour will not cover the grey.

Hey Mattie, I am also a read head :-)   a lighter red just a shade darker than strawberry blond just like my grandfather. When he died he was 78 and to this day I always remember looking at him in his coffin and thinking his body pack in but not a grey hair in sight :-))

I have been getting mine highlighted for 20 years now , not because I don't like the colour but because I have fine hair and it gives it the thickness I like.  I have went to the same Salon for all these years also and they have tried even know product to man to get the same affect without bleaching it.  I think depending on the shade of red it is a colour on to it's own.  It doesn't dye easy. My sister is a hair dresser and when I used to get my hair cut if I was getting an inch or more off of it my sister used to cut a section off it and practice and try various colours on it.

You lucky ladies :) red is the most interesting colour, so many different shades and all of them glorious.  Many years ago one of my friends in college had truely conker coloured hair (thick and shiny) and eyes to match, with creamy skin - she was stunning, but hated her red hair   no-one could convince her she looked great with it :(
