Whats the overall oppinion on this. At the new year a neighbour of mine lost their dog. They did all the usual with no luck. Only did they get the dog back when they offered a reward to £200. It seems wrong to me to make money out of someones missery.

I agree that people shouldn't look to make money out of someone's loss, but some people are always on the lookout to make a quick buck. If I lost Copper I would pay a reward to get him back no problem. I'd be distraught if he was missing.

It's a common problem in my area im afraid to say, dogs are stolen from the garden then only returned when a reward is offered, it has also been known that a higher price than the reward offered has been demanded or the dog will be killed, and the police do nothing it's a sad world, if caught they should be delt with Saudi style
I too wouldn't think twice about offering a reward if one of my dogs went missing, but I think the sensible thing to do would not be to advertise how much of a reward I would be prepared to pay.
This is currently a way of making money for some people - in humans kidnapping is a very serious offence, unfortunately with dogs it does not seem to be treated as an offence at all
