Yet again I did a random search on a certain internet classifieds site and was horrified at the number of adverts relating to my breed. (I won't name the site nor the breed as I don't want to advertise). It boils my pee to see unscrupulous people getting away with conning the public like this.
One advert states 'Stud' probably the biggest dog of this type in the country (then why are they studding him?), another states 'beautiful long coat'...a breed fault, and another is selling yet another cross & trying to claim it's pedigree.
Does this happen in all breeds? And am I the only one who gets angered by it?

I dont see why you can't name the site nor the breed you are concerned about!  Unfortunately you get unscrupulous breeders in all breeds that will say whatever they can to sell their pups and the only way you can try and prevent people from buying these pups is letting people know where or who they should avoid. In my breed some 'unknown/unscrupulous' breeders advertise in the local paper/exhange and mart stating that their pups are from 'top winning german/british lines and they are like big bears'. CRAP
Good breeders do not need to advertise in these papers nor do they have to advertise on a classifed internet site.

I don't want to advertise but you can pm me for the site :)

I don't want to boost sales for these folk.

It really angers me, in my breed, labradors, i see countless adverts for 'adorable chunky chocolate labs" I love my choclate labs, i hate to see them in the "must have" phase :(

I think it does happen in all breeds to some extent, most breeds have been through the popularity boom, irish setters (big red) 101 dalmatians, i find it disguisting that these puppy farmers prey on the public, i agree some breeders will say anything to sell pups, its like adverts for gsd i saw the other day, "massive cuddly bear dogs" WTF!!! Its crazy!!!!

I know it boils down to money, but are human beings so ...inhuman...that the idea of joining a breed club (and sticking to the code of ethics) or even just breeding because you want to maintain quality or improve quality so awful? You can look at the telephone numbers of the advertisers and know instantly who it is & what the dogs are like, if only people took the time to talk to people involved with various breeds it doesn't take long to find out who the bad'uns are.
I know we can't stop it. I'd like to see more Breed Clubs making their contact details more accessable than these classifieds, then hopefully the breeds would have a better chance. Is there a published register of Breedclubs? If it would be nice to see it sent out to all vets, kennels, rescue centres etc

I think the people who breed for profit are very unlikely to plough any of their profits back in to a breed club, all they're interested in is getting the maximum return for the minimum outlay, and club subsriptions are not going to be in the equation.  :(

I think the only way to get rid of the problem is by educating the pontential dog owners so they avoid the dodgy breeders all together.

but if the dodgey ones are the only ones that have a pup at the time or good breeders have a full waiting list/or dont want their pups to go to a certain home???? then they will turn to pet shops/puppy farms etc.
im not blameing the good breeders,im blaming the culture of this country that a dog is no better than buying a new tele, not much thought needed & when they want one they want one now. until this is sorted out we will all continue to go around in cicles

Unfortunately your pet owner doesn't know this !  I took my mums Pomeranian puppy to obedience class on Monday as there's a Pom. there that was bought via Loot or whatever the paper is, never bought it myself.  The people were so shocked when they saw our Pom, they thought that she was about 5 weeks old, when I told them that she was 14 weeks they couldn't believe it.

They thought that they'd bought their dog from a reliable breeder and I don't think it's their fault.  A lot of people who are not in the "doggy world" don't know how to go about things and think that this is the correct way.

It is inhumane and I often think the world would be a better place without people sometimes.  Surely if people were prevented from just going out and impulse buying then these people wouldn't make money !  I have seen/heard some terrible stories about the use and abuse of what I refer to as 'accessory and status dogs' sold by people claiming to be breeders.   Would it be that hard for the powers that be to stop abuse and cruelty by making people apply for a license  BEFORE they can buy a dog.  Part of this should include , registering with a vet and having a introduction talk , booking onto a series of training classes, having a house visit and demonstrating practical skills (handling/grooming)  and knowledge (first aid and the law)    etc.   Some people have said this is too drastic - but is it ?  Why don't we protect all dogs from day one, rather than just those rehomed through rescue.  It might break the cycle!
