We would like to introduce another dog into the family as soon as possible. We would like it to be around summer time which would mean our current dog a Cavalier King Charles would be about 12 months old. He is already very well trained and goes outside to do his business. The thing is he doesnt really seem to like other dogs- he can get abit scared around them. We want 2 dogs but unsure when is the best time to get one with out current dog being the way he is. We thought sooner the better?? Also we thought another dog may help our other dogs confidence as he is quite shy.

Thanks

If your current dog in scared then you should work with him before you even think of getting another.Take him to classes etc and get him socialised THEN and only then should you consider another. If you get another while your other dog is nervous the other pup will pick this up and will be too

If you get another dog while your current one is still showing fear of other dogs whilst out of the home you could end up with the younger one learning this behaviour from the older dog & you might end up with two dogs that are frightened of other dogs outside of the home

You would be better getting your current dog over his fear of other dogs before getting another dog
