My Basset is now 7 months old, i keep hearing lots of nightmare stories and recieving knowing glances about adolescence ( Unsure of Spelling!) Can you folks tell me what to expect in reality, i would also like to know how long it lasts and also about her first season.

All info very welcome;-)

Hi Deb,

She will probably be coming up to her "kevin stage" anytime now. I'm not sure about bassets as they aren't my breed, no doubt someone with experience of them will be along soon. It varies from dog to dog, some being worse than others, but as a general rule, she will suddenly turn deaf, (not literally) :D "unlearn" all of the training and manners that you have taught her and rebel. Bit like living with a teenager really :D

With seasons it really is anytime from 6 months onwards. She may become hormonal, a bit bad tempered, and off her food slightly. You should check her vulva regularly to look for signs of swelling/reddish colour and discharge as you don't want to be caught out. ;)

Oh Deb! I'd forgotten about this bit!
Busby is just coming up to 7 months too, so no doubt we'll be able to share embarrassing stories!
Good luck!
