I decided to do some cross referencing on speying procedure as to what was acceptable on releasing a bitch from there care most said the same just a shame my vet couldnt do the same and our little girly was already in shock when he handed her over to us the pneumonia followed and then death but thats another issue.
I thought I should ask for prices as well just so it seemed more legit and I was amazed at the difference we are near to two cities so kind of central and for a spey for a dog between 30k and 40k its £150-£160 but a bit further north well two J up the motorway its £119.00 and £127.00 bosters well amazing again at cost a full job is about £9.00 to the vet here we pay from £25.00 to £33.57 and thats for the booster further out again and these are small animal vets not farm or equine they charge £19.00 to £21.00 Consultation fees are between £15.00 and our vets around here £24.00 and thats for a lapvian/spanish what ever you pay the same not being funny but they are here to learn and we should all remember Truda from vets in practice what ever happened to her.
So when its mentioned on the price of Pup's in different area's we pay different rates.  C section's well they are what ever you want from say £350 for straight forward delivery to claimed she was bleeding £980 and we know someone who paid this another friend has just paid £650 4 babies and one with a hare lip and sent home later to die. Not a big breed just Staff's so would love to know what other people are paying as it seems to be they can charge what ever they want if we the punter are prepared to pay.

Hi i paid £575 for a c section last june after my girl had already had three shots of oxitocin to no avail but it wasnt a problem i paid the bill no questions asked. For a consultation my vets charge £27.50 but i may add they do a scheme called the well pets plan where i pay £56 a year and that covers all consultation fees for the said year. for boosters they charge £21.00 and for a puppy they charge £29.00. As for speying i have just asked this week what they charge and i was told anything from £80.00 to £130 depending on size and weight of dog, Castration is £40 and £80 there again depending size and weight. I had a pup who broke his back leg at 12wks and for a x ray they charged me £57.00 and for the operation to pin the leg it was £519.00 in total from start to finish. nail clipping and teeth cleaning is a mere £4.99 which i think is excellent value. I am in Lancashire and the other vets in my area all charge different but i get good service prompt attention when needed and a vet that talks to you not over your head

Ive just taken mine for his booster last week. That was £30 in total. Unsure about castration. Thats such a mark up on price though. Shocking

Emergency vets are much dearer (although they are on 24 hour call I suppose).  I paid 80 pounds for a consultation at 6pm at night and 24 pounds for an injection at the same time.  This was for a cat that unfortunately had to be put down the next day at my own vets - and that was 45 pounds.  Edinburgh is expensive anyway for vets.  I've used a few over the years and they've all been much the same prices.

AAh This is why I LOVE my vet (swoon). Apart from being very easy on the eye, he's the only vet we see, on call 24/7. Whenever I've had the slightest concern he's said come straight down. His receptionist is lovely with the animals & the humans. Fortunately we've never had any major probs but the bill has never exceeded £25 for vaccs or a checkup+antibiotics. I find him alot cheaper than the other vets & I have far more (waaaay more) confidence in his abilities.
As I said the dogs are all in good health but we do have one dog with thyroid problems, this vet makes sure we get his meds at cost & I haven't seen it cheaper anywhere.
I had nightmares when working in animal welfare with another vets, you'd see a different vet everytime, they'd always contradict eachother prolonging the animals suffering, you got the impression they were more interested in generating money than treating the animal. I'm pleased to see the back of that lot :(

Last year I had my oldest lab neutered, and it was £90+ , can't think exactly the amount but it was over £90.00. Three years ago the same dog had to have major surgery for a piece of wood stuck in the muscle tissue behind his airway. That was £760.00, and they were unable to locate the object (this included several xrays, and medication - still expensive enough). I then had to bring the dog to a specialist Vet in St. Helens for another operation to get the piece of wood out, and that was £380.00 and he did find the piece of wood - this inluded medication, two nights stay at the vet hospital, and follow up telephone consulations with both myself and my vet here (excellent value I thought).
