What about Harlestone Firs or Pitsford Resevoir or Brixworth Country Park?  Depends which side of town you live.

Irchester Country Park was recently voted one of the best dog walks in the area. There's Sywell park as well. Whereabouts are you?
Cathy.

Try this website: http://www.enjoynorthamptonshire.com/countrysidewaterways   It gives details of all the country parks. Irchester country park has been recently featured on the BBC - http://www.bbc.co.uk/northamptonshire/content/image_galleries
It is off the A509 from Wellingborough in the direction of Milton Keynes, on the B570, Gypsy Lane. There is a parking charge of £1 or £1.50 depending how long you stay!
I have 2 labs, and at the moment I walk them separately as they're 1 & 2, and the younger one is still somewhat boisterous!;) ;) So at the moment we tend to walk locally, so they get a shorter walk individually than they would do together. I need to build up my confidence to start taking them out together, it's my next goal. It would also be nice if it would stop raining long enough for everywhere to stop being quite such a quagmire...sigh...:( :( :(

Brixworth Country Park can be as long (or as short) as you like.  Trails marked with different distances if that's what you mean. Don't take my dogs there (Bulldogs) but often take daughter and her bike for a long walk when the weather is nice.  Gets quite busy though in the summer.

Funnily enough the company I work for is currently relocating to Northampton. Any advice on the best areas to live/schools etc much appreciated :)
- By carene [in] Date 18.01.05 20:59 UTC
Welcome to Northampton! We moved here in 1980, so I suppose we might be said to belong now. Actually I am now married to a Northamptonian, but there aren't that many of them around - most of us are "immigrants" ;) ;). The schools in Northampton have just undergone a very major reorganisation from 3 tier to 2 tier ( when we came in 1980 they had recently reorganised in the opposite direction..........) The southern area is more expensive, in fact Grange Park was recently said to have some of the highest incomes in the country....we have lived in Weston Favell, Little Billing and now Ecton Brook, the 2 latter estates being part of the massive Northampton "new town" development of the 1970s. Houses over here are much better value for money. My son has moved out to Long Buckby, a very nice village near Daventry, but half an hour's drive from us - which adds an hour to every baby-sitting session :( :( You have a very wide choice, really, depending on whether you want town or country. Where are you moving from?

Well I've been lucky, I got transferred and promoted within house so my job is safe for two years at least. They still want me to go & hubby has an office in Milton Keynes so it's not totally out of the question. The company is Transco, they've bought the Brewery building on the business park. They're looking to employ 900 staff. I know alot of colleagues are relocating, we were advised to look at Daventry properties by a local estate agent? They put me up in The Hilton so I could check the place out but all those For Sale signs put me off a wee bit. Our house prices are still rising in Northumberland, I'm worried about buying in Northampton and going static.

But I'm going to write down the names of the places you've mentioned and have a look.

My friend has 2 GSDs, she's definitely moving. She wants detached, country £125-£150k so let me know if you see anything :)

Thankyou for your reply :)

Village properties do tend to be much more expensive, so she'd be unlikely to get a detached country property in that price range - unless it needed a lot doing to it, of course. Prices do seem to have levelled out a bit over the last 3 months, but who knows what will happen next? There are some really lovely houses in Northamptonshire, but as everywhere they come at a price! I can understand you being reluctant to move from Northumberland...such a spectacular part of the country! How long do you have to decide?

I'm an "Immigrant" too!

A londoner originaly but couldnt afford the house prices, looked up Rushden (hubby was a Diamonds supported even when we lived in London!)

We moved to a village outside of Rushden and best thing we ever did.
That was 3 years ago. We knew nobody here, had no jobs or anything lined up just done it.

We have made more freinds here in 3 years than i did in 20 odd years in London. Nicer folk, nicer dog walking areas, much more central for dog shows and lots of dog clubs.

HTH

Hannah
(Who is glad she got in when she did as our house has more than doubled in price in that short space)

Well they're struggling to get the staff apparently, so at the moment there's no pressure. I'm definitely interested in your thoughts though because I can pass it onto colleagues who are definitely moving between now & March.

We were looking at properties online at work and noticed one with the street sign stuck on the corner...'Titty Ho'.....that generated a few sniggers (we're so mature :) ) There is one area that looked nice but I can't for the life of me remember what the Estate was called. I'll get back to you on that one...

Howdy fellow Northamptoners!!! I am originally from Milton Keynes, moved to Duston in Northampton and now live in Long Buckby. It is surrounded by wonderful countryside to go dog walking, and isn't too far from civillisation!!! Daventry Country Park is a great place near here to go dog walking, so to is Harlestone Firs.

instead of taking your dog for a walk so often try spelling lessons!
