My Giant Scnauzer of two years old has been vomiting for 24 hours - he wont eat and is generally under the weather.

Time to contact the vet or should I wait?

Definitely take him to the vet. He'll no doubt be getting dehydrated, and you need to find out the cause.

vet quickly i have just delt with a gi upset in my little dog and he was sorted out very quickly after dragging my feet for 2 days i wish i had taken him sooner.

As above - vets straight away .  Our Ridgeback was ill like this at 18 months .  He had been dopey for a few days and stools went dark, that evening   he started  vomitting black gloopy stuff and wouldn't get out of his bed, wouldn't drink and wouldn't entertain his favourites.  The emergency vet treated him, initially thinking it was poisoning  - luckily we though ahead and  we took samples of vomit and stools ready for testing straight to the vet - it saved time.  He was immediately blood tested , rehydrated by the vet and given a shot of antibiotics.  Luckily it was nothing long term, but a very bad case of gastroenteritis . To give you an idea of severity he dropped a kilo of weight in a week!  It took two months to get that weight slowly back on , as we had to be careful with his tummy feeding chicken and rice in small portions .  The vet suspects that some beef scraps we had given him in the new year ( the only thing we can think of that as different) caused a reaction which had developed and become infected with bacteria.  We now steer clear of beef !    It was a traumatic time, and we had no idea about gastroenteritis, food allergies or that black vomit /black stools indicates blood is present - that wasn't in any puppy books.  Anyway a year on he is a very lively boy again I am happy to say.  Hope your baby is ok . Get him to the vet asap.

I nearly lost a dog 4 years ago, he had a blockage in his intestines and was constantly vomiting, even after drinking water, I was away, my daughter phoned me and by the time I got home and got him to the Vet he was so dehydrated he was dying on his feet.  The vet managed to rehydrate him by drip.

The odd vomiting episode is Ok but constant is an emergency.
