thanks to the people who answered my question posted on visitors questions ( was unable to log on ) my question was that i am thinking about getting a second gsd puppy when my fred is about 15months old. Out of choice i would like a bitch but have come across mixed responses to this. my fred is a bit of a mummys boy follows me everywhere etc, but he is also a big softy incredably friendly and socialable he has been very well bred and has quite an impressive back ground. he has a sound temprament. the reason i ask this question is that freddies mum is hopfully having a litter april/may time and would dearly love one of her pups for the reasons mentioned above

There shouldn't be a problem getting a bitch at all as long as you can cope with her seasons or have her speyed.
BTW..Welcome to CD

thanks archer for your advise. we would most definatley get her spaded as it is not my intention to breed, although fred is going to be castrated ( for medical reasons before anyone jumps on their high horses) before her arrival

We have a 3 year old male GSD and a 10 month old female. We got puppy when our boy was just over 2 years (and once he had calmed down a bit!) and we haven't had any problems at all. Ossie (boy) was castrated at nearly 2 years old because he had a tendency to be flighty and slightly dominant with other dogs, we never intended to breed from him (for various reasons) and decided it was better to have him done. We got Eb after having spoken to friends at our GSD training club and several breeders, all of which recommended getting a bitch to us. Eb has just come into season which is a bit of a nightmare as Os seems to have forgotten that there's no point to trying it on :-) but we intend to get her spayed in April / May time.
Overall, personally speaking, I would say to wait until your boy is a little older, maybe 2? and then to get a bitch, but this is just mho. I know that if we had a pup when Os was still young we may have gone mad! Os is very well behaved and we train with him weekly as well as competing in agility with him but he definitely regressed for a while when we got Eb and who knows how he would have been when he was younger!
Good luck whatever your decision and enjoy!

Hi Freddie
no problem...asssumed you didn't want to breed since you were looking at getting a pup from the same dam.
Good luck
Archer
thanks for your advise, am definatley going to get a bitch now as noone appears to have had any problems although concidering waiting till fred is over 2 years old but that would mean having to look for another breeder i feel confident with as when i looked before spoke to a few strange people.
