Hello. My 15 week old staffy bitch gets that exited when she is let out of kitchen in the morning or when people come in,that she pees everywhere.I know it is not her fault and i am not going to give her into trouble for being happy.I have all floors tiled downstairs,so cleaning up is not a problem but it can be a pain sometimes. Is there any way i can get her to stop? or will she just grow out of it?. Lately, as soon as i let her out of the  kitchen in the morning.I hav`nt bothered with her and put her out into the  garden straight away,Then fussed over her when she came back in.Will this help? Thanks.Spike

I have no words of advice but just to let you know you are not alone, Summer my 6month old lab does this, and Connie my springer did this (occasionally until she was about 3ish) and then just stopped.

Hi Spike,

In answers to your questions : Yes and Yes :D  Firstly she will most probably grow out of it when she has better bladder control - at 15 weeks that's not within her abilities at the moment.

Secondly, you are definitely doing the right thing by not paying her attention as you let her out of the kitchen - the less fuss you make, the less she has to get excited about :P   Try and always leave her and return to her in a calm and controlled manner yourself - don't make a big deal out of either - she will eventually not feel the same level of excitement.  It's also worth ensuring that other household members and visitors ignore her too when first arriving home or letting her out of the kitchen (I assume you mean from that you put her straight out in the garden to perform?)

Sounds like you're already well on your way to solving this yourself - just needs a little more patience and perseverance.

Good luck, Teri ;)

I agree with all the comments, our Staff girl is now 10 months old and wasnt house trained until probably 5 months at least and then she still had the odd accident so you have got awhile to go yet. Also becasue she only occasionally weed from excitement we have never had to do the ignoring thing when she hasnt seen us for awhile. We let her do her mad moment with us and she calms down on her own

My 15 week Irish Setter Alfie does this excitement weeing thing, its so gutting when he goes all night without weeing and as soon as I let him out of his cage he pees himself with excitement   I am doing what you are doing by not giving him any fuss until he has been out but he is always so pleased to see me he just has to wet himself :D :D  Im glad to hear he will grow out of it !!

Spike hi,
I think a lot of us puppy owners are with you on this one.  My pup is 13 weeks old and doing the same thing.  I am assured by lots of people that its all normal and he will grow out of it, in the meantime i,ve bought myself a nice rain coat to catch the widdles.  I hope you are enjoying your pup as much as i am mine :o).  Good luck and remember this quote...  "things can only get better"
