I have read recent postings re Labradoodle which are a very popular "breed" of dog here in Australia although very expensive and hard to find. They have none of the problems that pure bred dogs have eg hip dysplacia and generally are good natured, allergy free, mainly non shedding dogs. There are a number of web sites with chat boards eg Rutland Manner, Kate's family pets ( a vet who breeds doodles) I have had may pure breed dogs over my 60 years but the doole is the best. Clever, loving and healthy. Don't knock them. They will hopefully be a recognized breed in Oz soon

Welcome to the forum Guest :-)

Maybe you could give us more information on Aus. Labradoodles? For example, are your breeders now working to a breed standard and what criteria do the ANKC use before a 'new' breed is recognized? All interesting stuff :D

Guest I am afraid that Labradoodles and any other cross will be prone to the same troubles that their parent breeds are prone to, so potentially you can get both sets of problems.

You may not see them in the first generations due to the fact that they have no uniformity, but when the subsequent generations are bred together whatever is there will come out!

Have to agree with you Brainless 'The whole is only as good as the sum of the parts' and even the Australian sun can't alter that. JH

Agree with what has been said. You must also remember once the breed has been 'standardised' and therefore no further 'outcrosses' are allowed with unchecked breeding recessive faults will start to appear like any other breed.
