Hi, I have a golden retriever (4 months old) can anyone advise when to cut out the 3 meals a day into two meals?
i was advised at 6 months they should be on two meals a day but i wasnt told when to start doing this.
She is having 3 meals a day as i say but over the last week i have noticed her start to look a little chubby (so to speak) and thought perhaps i am over feeding her, she is greedy so will eat whatever is in front of her anyway.
Thanks in advance.

I tend to find with all 3 breeds I've got here that they made their own choice about which meal to stop, our rescue rottie is now down to 3 meals a day from her original 4 and she's only just coming upto 5mths we believe, she dropped her 4pm feed within a week of being with us so I upped her other feeds to make sure she was ok and after a couple of weeks on that she stopped eating when she was full and if she was runny then I reduced each meal slightly until she firmed up again.
All pups look chubby, like children, just before they have a significant growth surge I was only commenting last friday that Merry the rott was getting too heavy for my liking ............. my friend who used to breed and show rotts burst out laughing asking me HOW long you been around dogs woman? So I'd forgotten just how obvious the puppy fat looks on a big dog just before they take a growing leap, been 15 years since my last GSD pup. I looked at her again yesterday and sure enough her puppy fat has disappeared and she's highter up my leg than last week.
