My dog has been to the vets before a few times because her ears get red and infected inside sometimes. Occasionally she still itches her ears. Are the ear drops on the market any good to treat this?

Not the answer I was expecting thought it would be a Cocker or the like, sounds like ear mite it can re-infect even after infection has cleared. Get some more drops from the vet and treat all your pets including the cat, don't worry about the budgie. The mite causes irritation the dog scratches and the ear becomes infected. JH

I swear by Thornit for dogs ears. On a different note, I couldn't get rid of the dogs conjunctivitis a few months back. Had two lots of antibiotic eye drops from the vet. In the end I bought 'Brolene' from the chemist. Two days later, both dogs eyes cleared and no problems since.

Hi, dudley is dead right. Thornit is always the first thing I use for ear probs as long as there is no infection or severe heat/swelling inside the ear.

Where can I buy it and how do i use it

Championpets sell it and it comes with instructions. If you do use it, put some on the dogs feet as well because when they scratch some of the mites get transferred onto their feet so keep infecting themselves whenever they have a scratch.

It is a bit odd putting power into there ears. Doesn't the powder start to build up in the ears?

I believe it absorbs the excess moisture in the ear, on which bacteria can thrive. I did have the thornit leaflet which explains how it works but I can't find it now. You only use a tiny pinch in each ear. Try it, honestly its good. I had been back and forward to the vets for months and when I massaged my dogs ears you could hear the gunge in it. Within 3/4 days of using Thornit her ears smelt and looked clean, and she stopped shaking her head and rubbing her ears. A small bottle lasts ages.

Hi, you only put a pinch or two in each ear a day, I have never had any build up, its pushed to the top of the ear with the "gunge" for you to clean away gently.
