I know this can be a very emotive subject but I will explain why I prefer the colours of Labs and what has made me think this way :0

I never had a dog when I was young but always wanted a dog ( cat filled house )

I remember seeing a chocolate Lab when I was about 10 yrs old and fell hook line and sinker :)

So I always said when ever I was able I would have one ! I spent all my time at home walking other peoples dogs in my spare time :)

So when I was in a situation I got Mars Bar 1 at 8 weeks old 17 years ago and have never looked back since

I do however and don't mean to offendthat blacks are my next then yellows, don't know why but is is !

I prefer Blue Danes. I make no apologies for it - I just do! I also prefer chestnut horses - but I have 3 greys and only 2 chestnuts! :D

In aussies I like black tris, with a black black and a deep tan and a clear white!  BECAUSE I DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol

red tris are second (only if the red is a deep, mahogany red) then blue mearls, the red meals.  all have to have white a copper trim! :)

Used to love red mearls the most but I don't like what happends in the sun where they get bleached!

I have two breeds, the Irish Setter only comes in the one colour, Red. My other breed is American Cockers, and I like the Black & Tans best. I have two B&Ts three Blacks and a Buff. Getting good markings on a B/T is a further complication in the good breeding equasion. The standard calls for readily visible tan markings in specific locations, but must be 10% or less of the overall coat colour. My two are both softly marked (could do with slightly more tan on their feet) but otherwise marked OK.

My favourite coloured GSD has got to be the white (even though I've got black and tans) I've loved them from being a teenager when I saw my first one :)
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 12.01.05 22:42 UTC
In labs, I like the blacks. In dals I prefer the livers (although Harry is doing a grand job at trying to change my mind towards blacks!); and I'd love a black and tan cocker and a black pug.
:)

Well in my breed I love the deep red and white Boxer :)
But at the mo I have one veteran deep stag red and white Boxer and
2 Brindle and white Boxers :D So I'll just have to have another red
& white soon :D I'm not colour biased I love all the 3 colours that the Boxer
can come as - but red is my favourite. :)

In horses well I saw the most gorgeous liver chestnut, 4 white socks
and a blaze. You know I've never seen another that quite took my breath away like
that one did, it was a good many years ago now.

In Labs my preference is Black, then yellow and chocolate.
- By ice_cosmos Date 12.01.05 22:56 UTC
When I first started looking at Mals I wanted a grey & white dog and ended up getting a seal & white bitch :D

I still prefer grey & white but do really like the seals (I wouldn't say no to a seal dog ;) ) The one colour i'm not as keen on is the red, though saying that there are a couple of reds I do like (I prefer the darker shade). I also like wolf sable :)

The two other breeds I like are aussies and labs, and like the blue merle and yellow colours respectively :)
- By huskymad [gb] Date 12.01.05 23:14 UTC
I LOVE THE RED AND WHITE HUSKIES! They are not every one's 'cup of tea', but the dark reds and the very light reds with blue eyes are just amazing! no appologies here! :)

I also love chocolate labs after spending a day with one on a beach about 30 years ago, have always had a soft spot for them. These days I feel I almost have to apologise for liking chocolate labs just because they are trendy now.

I supose it was the same for Dalmation people following the 1001 dalmation film.

I too love chocolate labs.  I think blacks can also be stunning. When it comes to dalmations I prefer liver and my favorite cats are grey. I prefer appaloosa (spotty) horses! :-)

Easy choice here.....my breed come in grey ,grey or grey.(with the odd...VERY RARE...red turning up...but thats a def no no in the breed)
Archer
Got a black and tan Shiba Inu aswell and would LOVE a white!!!!!!!!!
- By LindyLou [gb] Date 13.01.05 13:25 UTC
It has to be black and white. I've had an English Springer who was black/white, and now have Large Munsterlanders, which of course are black/white. I've seen non-standard Munsters and they look cute, but still prefer the black/whites. :D
- By hairypooch Date 13.01.05 18:56 UTC
In my main breed, Briards, I love both fawn and black equally. I have fawn currently but will soon balance the colours by having a black  ;) Although they are unusual,  Don't like the greys much.

And I am still old fashioned when it comes to my GSD's, a good strong black and tan any day does it for me :) I have had an all black and a very sable/blonde colour but still prefer the black and tan. Preferably with dark head/body.
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 13.01.05 21:02 UTC
In my Spanish I have to admit that I have a very soft spot for my black and whites, I adore them.  So I have two black and whites, one cream, one brown and one white and black.
- By spaniel-lover [gb] Date 13.01.05 21:13 UTC
I love black and tan as a colour combination-I too would love a black and tan cocker, likewise I would also love a Gordon setter!  Mind you, I also really like the blues... :)
- By Dill [gb] Date 14.01.05 00:35 UTC
A long, long time ago I was priveliged to see a SILVER Weimeraner running around a beach car park and giving his owners the run around :D the sun on his coat made him look like mercury  :D :D :D When I get close he was a perfect blue grey with a beautiful sheen.   I was smitten and have always preferred blue cats and dogs since.  The closest I've ever found to that dog is a really good Blue Burmese.  Sadly I haven't seen the colour in Weimeraners since, they all seem to have that lilac cast to the coat :(  But I still adore blue dogs :)  Including Blue-Fawn Whippets :)

Another colour I love in dogs is the Wolf sable - sooo soft and pretty :)  and the rich Chestnut colour of Irish setters and Ruby Caveliers is just gorgeous :)
- By Trevor [gb] Date 14.01.05 06:32 UTC
Just love the intense blue black of a good Groenendael - the coat is like no other breeds when you get the colour right - unfortunately here is a tendency to have a reddish tinge creep in which spoils the lustre effect of the coat - in Tervs I like the true greys - again quite rare but stunning when you get it right.

When we first started looking for a dog we were pretty open to any colour but then we saw a red and fell in love with the colour so we set our hearts on a red but when we went to look at a litter out of a red dog and a red bitch we saw a white and red bitch who just grabbed us both and screamed 'take me home!' and ever since then we have been hooked on pieds as no two really look the same because of the markings each one has. Having said that I do still love the deep chesnuty red colour SBT's and if OH is happy to have another one may look at buying one in next year but I already know the answer to that question!!!!!! I am also a huge closet fan of red bull mastiffs but other half has already put that idea firmly to bed.

- By liberty Date 14.01.05 19:58 UTC

in Bcs i prefer B&Ws.
BUT they MUST be SYMETRICAL & prefer them alitlle on the darker side (ie fair amount of black)...but not too dark!
i like some tris, but they must be just right.bright enough but not too bright ,enough of it but not too much.

i see more BMs that i dont like than i do

red & whites dont do much for me,but are really popular now, although i love the gold sables.

after saying all that the dog that i really like on the ob circuit at the moment is blue & w ,& hes stunning
- By jazzywoo Date 15.01.05 09:37 UTC

Well my mals pedigrees all state wolf grey/white, but I love how as each mal joins the pack their coats change and become alike. Unlike the blacks or reds, mine have changing colours/contrasts. It is fascinating how similar their coats become once they bond even though they're all from different litters. It's like they wear a gang colour :)
- By hairypooch Date 15.01.05 19:45 UTC
That is fascinating spook :) Do any other dogs do this that you know of, or is this purely a Mal thing? :)
- By Rozzer [gb] Date 16.01.05 12:55 UTC
Afghans come in any colour.  Mine is black with a white chest, gorgeous ;)  Almost every time we are out on a walk I get asked what breed she is!  When I reply Afghan the response is always the same "Didn't know they came in that colour"
- By Spook [gb] Date 16.01.05 13:09 UTC
I'm not sure about other breeds Hairypooch. It did come up on Champdogs a couple of years ago. It was a mal breeder who I discussed it with, they owned ten mals although kenneled separately they interacted closely and were all allowed into the family home. The older foundation dogs had different blood lines. Their body types were different but their coat colours were very similar. It took about 2 yrs for my first two mals to 'blend' (approx 4 moults) but since adding multiple mals who all interact closely their coat textures, but mainly colours are all alike.
- By Freedom2010 [gb] Date 16.01.05 15:15 UTC
I do love all flatcoats but just prefer the look of the blacks and would not want a liver.  They just don't seem to have the shine or the lovely dark eye.  Personal preference only of course, I'm quite happy to be licked by any of them!!
