We have 2 male rottweilers ( 1 neutered ) and 1 entire male pug all living together in our home. There is never any fighting, no dominance weight throwing. They adore each other and spend many nights laid together licking each others faces, quite simply they are all the best of friends. I am getting fed up by people telling me that I am mad to keep 3 males together. Can there not be exceptions to certain doggy rules??

i love my male dogs over the last 30 years i had not had any problem with them flighting,or dominanc, alwys got on well,
but my bitch;s have had a couple of flights over food, dominance row, pmt.

i would have more dogs than bitches any time, which at the moment 4 girls 1 male no more girls only boys.

I also have kept two (or more) males together over 30+years of living with dogs and never had a problem.  Mine even accept  foster dogs and visiting dogs of both sexes without problem.  I also have a female and she is ok with other visiting dogs too.  One of my foster dogs could be a bit possessive with his toys around mine but other than that there has never been a problem.  All my dogs eat together in the utility room and when other dogs are here they join in and eat in the same place;  there's never been any aggression.

If you have no problems keeping males together why worry what anyone else says - if it ain't broke - don't fix it.

Only time I ever had a problem with two boys is when I introduced a bitch....... :(  I currently have two bitches who get along very well, so long as I remain 'in charge'.

I know of many all male or all female dog households.  Things usually work best when there is a decent age gap between them.  Mixed ses households (more than one of each I mean) when there are twoor more males in many breds are unlikely to work if the bitches are entire.

With some breeds it is rare for the same sex to get on.

I've always had multiple dog households & the only problems have arisen between bitches after the death of my Alpha bitch

Up to July this year I had 6 entire dogs & one spayed bitch & no problems I would never have an entire bitch as I don't really do bitches, i still have 4 entire males(albeit only  cavaliers)

Two male BCs here and absolutely no problem at all.  Eat, sleep and walk together.

Do you not feel this can be a breed thing though.  My breed seem to be pretty sociable with their own sex, but males can have problems with each other over bitches, so care is taken to either keep them apart or watch for changes when bitches arte about to be in season.  In some breeds with rare exceptions males simply can't be kept together full stop.

I have never had problems with my bitches and any dogs that came to visit, but they are brought up to get on with all dogs |I bring into my home, meet or travel with.  Some owners of my breed have had problems with bitches of similar status or age, or a very bolshy young bitch wanting to take over when in her new home, or a resident bitch not taking to an adolesent one being brought in.

Our young male who came through Quarantine at 9 months was great pals with a male some 6 months older and an old stud male who they both treated as God almighty.  The other young male changed homes before there were any issues between them on maturity, and the mature young male still respected the old guy until his death even though they lived with 4 entire bitches.  The true Alpha in that houseghold is the oldest bitch, and she only really likes her own daughter,a nd the others know to watch out and mind their manners.

Now it's my turn to agree with you, Brainless! ;) :D I'd reckon any entire males of any species (including humans) could be dodgy when there were (possibly) available females. I've also found that bitches can also be perfectly amicable with other dogs/bitches on neutral territory but not allow them over the threshold of 'their' property.

Hi B/less yes could be a breed thing :) My 2 eldest males, 5yrs & half with 3mths between them sleep together in the house in same bed cuddled up!!! & had to make double kennel for them so they be together outside as well!  & younger who`ll be 4yrs in April has to be with them & will get in bed with one of them when other is by himself :D His kennel is open next to them so they all go in together. Nuetered boy came back to me over a yr ago aged 4yr & a bit & was in with them within 24hrs in the house & 48hrs in kennels, hes next door to them but all inter doors are kept open. Do think wat brought up has influence on them as well, also temperement a lot to do with it. The boys follow me everywhere, girls more independent, got to investigate every little thing with boys following them like little lap dogs!! :D When the girls go too far the boys run back to me, they don`t like me to be out of site either lol. Girls seem to not be bothered whos in charge between themselves, just so long as the boys do as they`re told when they`re told and they know girls are boss!! :D

Until recently I've always had bitches (some entire, some spayed) living together in harmony. When we were compelled to keep two males the remaining bitches were spayed (being either too old or not suitable for breeding) and the males kept entire. Five years on, all is still harmonious.

In my own house, I've got 4 males who apart from the odd play fight and ruff and tumble, have always got on brilliantly!  And in my house, the top dogs are the cats... :)

Wow I thought I was crazy as I have three dogs, one six, one 8 months, one 5 months. It's hard at the moment, well exhausting really!!
Great fun though :-)

How do you all cope with walking them all? Its ok until they do their jobs then things get really tricky If i'm on my own!
- By spaniel-lover [gb] Date 14.01.05 09:22 UTC
In my case, it can be a bit of a nightmare if they get themselves over excited and then start jumping all over eachother when they have their leads on.. :)  However, it is quite rare for me to be walking them as a group with them all with their leads on for any length of time-short trips round the block are manageable and they seem to have worked out their own rota for doing their business while we're out and they're on leads-enables me to have the 3 standing ones in one hand and the 1 squatting in the other-then all leads back to one hand when it comes to picking up, if necessary!  When they are out for their run, it's straight from the boot of the car into the fields/park etc, so that saves any hassle also.  Having said that, I'm not sure if I could realistically cope with anymore! :)

I walk my five together everywhere as I don't drive.  this time of year sometimes their off lead excersise is a bit restricted as I don;t like lying flat on my face knee deep in mud :D

My lot get a lot of pavement walking regardless of the free running and have worked out that it is far better to trot nicely than get in a muddle.  We just all stop when someone has to attend to call of nature, but I do have to keep them from stadning in the middle of the road rather than only just in the gutter.  Quick pick up with the nappy sacks kept in hundreds in all coat pockets, bags etc, and then find the nearest bin, carrying the offending pooh bag in the other hand :D
