I apologise if this has already been posted - but, did anyone see the yellow labrador puppy on the news? It was dumped and is now at Wood Green, it had also been docked :(

I don't watch the news, so haven't seen this. But are you sure it was docked? I only ask because my Large Munsterlander bitch had half of her tail amputated when she was just days old due to an accident. Munsters have full tails (some have the last bit removed, but not so many nowadays.)

Labradors are not a "Docked breed" although because of their happy tail wagging nature have been known to damage their tails to the extent that amputating a few joints is sometimes essential. My Bethany was rarely without a bandage on her tail during her life and Anna is doing her best to take after her. So far this season I've been lucky and for the first time in the last 5 years she has not split it but the season's not finished yet so we still have time. So far I have not had to have a tail amputated and I hope I dont but you never know.

One Flatcoated Retriever person on this board had to have a section of one of her dog's tail amputated a few years ago because of the damage done to it.

Hi all, I'm very well aware that labradors are not a docked breed!!!..I've owned dobermanns since 1984. This was a puppy about 12 weeks of age - it had to have veterinary treatment for the tail which they said had been docked by someone who obviously had no clue what they were doing.....there was about a third of the length left :( Amazingly enough the pup looked fit and healthy..

I'm sorry but I really cannot imagine anyone would dock a Labrador's tail in ignorance. Hooliganism maybe. There cannot be anyone on the planet who does not know that Labrador's tails are not docked.
