Is it a good idea to cross two very different sized dogs?  My feelling is that it would be very wrong.

It's a bad idea. If the larger dog was the sire the dam would very likely be injured or even killed at mating, during pregnancy or at the birth.

Its a bad idea to cross any 2 breeds....regardless of size!

Do you mean the same breed? It's still not a good idea though. If you are trying to correct the size, whether the bitch is too big or too small, far better to use a standard size dog & not go to the other extreme when you might end up with a litter which are all either too big & too small!

the title reads..bearded collie cross tibettan ...so I'm afraid we're talking a HUGE difference in size and 2 different breeds

It's not just size Archer it's also temperament & character as TT's can be very stubborn(like other tibetan breeds)& stubbonness with Beardie bounce Argh the mind boogles

I wonder if it's because of some of the dogs on the TV etc look like such a X & described as such when in fact they are actually a mongrel or a different breed altogether(like Freeway who was an untrimmed Lowchen !)Friend of mine has a PWD & she doesn't show him so has him in a shortish trim all over & he does look at first glance a bit like one of her beardies has had a mistake ! If you know dog breeds he is obviously a PWD but to the Gen Public he looks like a cute mixed breed

I think it is so wrong but unfortunately there are idiots out there all the time.At the moment i have in my foster care a German Shepherd x Chinese Crested. She is a darling but needless to say i am not impressed by whoever let this happen
