I know there are a few people on here who like poetry :)

I thought it would be good to share some of our favourite verses or parts of verses. I have many, but here's one for starters:

"To see a world in a grain of sand
and a heaven in a wild flower
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand
and eternity in an hour..."

Blake "Auguries of Innocence".

Also:

"...so it must have been after the birth of the simple light
In the first, spinning place, the spellbound horses walking warm
Out of the whinnying green stable
On to the fields of praise".

Dylan Thomas, "Fern Hill".

There are many poems I like and some that I find a bit naff . I like poems that are written from the heart.
Some years ago I lost my very First lab I have to say that I greived for a very long time I found that if i wrote down my feelings then it made me feel better.
I started to then wrie the odd poem trouble is most of them made people cry but only because when I wrote them it was what I felt.
A few years later my friend and I were discussing our dogs which were both getting on in years we both agreed we would be gutted when we lost them, anyway that night I wrote this poem its called "Is your heart" and it says about what I feel for my dogs and particularly the dog it was written for " William " my yellow lab  (he passed away  some years later)

Is Your Heart

Do you think you Heart is big enough
To store the love he gives
This lovely Pup you've just acquired
In the short time that he lives
Do you think your Heart is wide enough
To store up all the pride
Of this handsome dog, all grown up
As he walks out by your side
And will you Heart be strong enough
To cope with all the pain
When the time has come to say goodbye
You cant see him again
Well when my Hearts no longer strong
And My Life comes to an end
There will be a celebration
'Cause I'll see my friend again
As I take my walk down Heavenly Shores
I know that I will see
That familiar face, that wagging tail
Waiting There for me

There's actually two that I like

I Stood Beside Your Bed Last Night
Author Unknown.

I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying, you found it hard to sleep.

I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear.
"Its me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here"

I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea.
You were thinking of the many times your hands reached down to me.

I was with you at the shops today, your arms were getting sore.
I want to take your parcels, I wished I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today, you tend it with such care.
I want to reassure you that I'm not lying there.

I walked with you towards the house as you fumbled for the key,
I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said "It's me".

You looked so very tired and then you sank into a chair,
I tried so hard to let you know that I was standing there.

Its possible for me to be so near you everyday,
to say to you with certainty "I never went away".

You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew
That in the stillness of that evening I was very close to you.

The day is over.... I smile and watch you yawning
and say, " Good Night, Sweet Dreams, God   Bless,
I'll see you in the morning".

And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide
I'll rush to greet you and well stand together side by side.

I have so many things to show you, there's much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out; then come home and be with me.

This is my favourite

Memories are Golden

They say memories are golden.
Well, maybe that is true.
I never wanted memories
I only wanted you.

A million times I needed you,
A million times I cried.
If love alone could have saved you,
You never would have died.

In life I loved you dearly,
In death I love you still.
In my heart you hold a place
No one could ever fill.

If tears could build a stairway,
And heartache make a lane.
I'd walk the path to heaven,
And bring you home again.

Our family chain is broken,
And nothing seems the same.
But as God calls us one by one,
The chain will link again.
